1970 c10 2wd - manual to power steering ??
I have a 1970 c10 that came with manual steering an having an issue with pit man arms ? the manual Pittman arm wouldn't fit the new power steering box as the splines shaft was different . so I bought a power steering pit arm an it fits the new box but now were it bolts to the drag link the shaft is different size than the old manual shaft . the shaft is a little to small to tighten up properly ? do the make a shim or is the another pit arm for this kinda swap ?? any help would be great

I used a 68 PS pitman arm on my 68 with a later model(Unknown year but o-ring fittings) box.Everything bolted right up and worked correctly.I was told to use the pitman arm that works for the front steering since the PS Pitman arms are the same on the box end for all years.

Re: 1970 c10 2wd - manual to power steering ??
it was a quality control issue with advance auto parts !
, the first pit arm was boxed wrong , so the manager ordered me another one same part number # 3days later it show up at the store, I go to open up the box an wa la a tie rod end falls out !! WTF not a happy camper . enuf f n around . I called Moog Monday got some specs matched it up with the old pit arm an order a Moog part k6131 fit like a glove , the only difference between the manual pit an the power pitt arm is were it fit's on the steering box the splined hole is bigger for the #k6131 .. tried to save a few buck$ on the steering conversion an bought a drive works value line part DW-6131 Bad idea. the 3rd attempt was Moog an the manager discounted a $104.99 part down to $47.99 which helped lesson learned don't spare $$$ on front end parts always buy the best .. as these cheap parts the these stores sell are just that cheap an a waste of your TIME . |
