Taking the Cab off the frame.
Well today I called up ECE planning on ordering new radiator support bushings and hardware.Well i ended up ordering a complete kit with all new bushings,bolts,and a sleeves as well as new bed bolts.
So it looks like this weekend I am going to take the cab off my 67 and sand blast the frame and repaint it.Along with replace the rest of the floor and undercoat it. How heavy is a cab?Will I be able to pick it up with my cherry picker?Maybe 4 or 5 guys could get it. Thanks

With an S10 cab it could be lifted with 3 people, but it was better with 4(with doors off). Your cab will be heavier so I'm not sure if 4 people could lift it or not. Plus remember you'll have to lift it over everything that's still in place. tires, engine, etc.
Using a cherry picker will be a little hard to do without damage. If you strap it by the roof, for sure you'll damage the doors if they're there. If they're not there you might buckle the roof, but I don't know for sure. I've never lifted off a cab that I really cared about so I wasn't worried about damage. Maybe you could bolt something to your seat bolts & attach to that, but I'm not 100% sure they are even strong enough. If you try to lift by the roof or by wrapping something around it, I suggest using a strap rather than a chain. A big problem with the cherry picker will be finding a balance point since it will be front heavy. |

The doors are going to stay on it.
I wonder if I could take and build something to slide under the cab and pick it up.So there is no stress on the cherry picker on one side and a floor jack on the other and have 2 people move it.And the roll the chasiss out from under it. This is going to be interesting....

Others have have success using the cherry picker inside the cab. Personally, I'm a fan of the front-loader tractor. . . .

A bare cab with no glass and nothing but doors and steering column took 4 guys and that was just barely enough.

when we moved mine 4 good sized guys lifted it up, and when we did we almost tossed it across the shop.we thought it was gonna be much heaver than it was..I had no glass, tank, seat, or anything in it. just make sure you cut the ground strap that goes from the cab to the frame.........good luck John

If you use a cherry picker run a couple of 4x4's spaced apart with blocks thru the cab, just a strap will buckle the cabDon't go thru the door windows they will bend under the weight

Lifted my bare cab without doors and with tank with a couple of light duty ratchet straps wrapped around the door pillar posts front and rear and hooked to a cross beam in the garage. I used one strap on each side. My son and I and one other kid lifted one off a truck and put it on the ground. We struggled with only three of us. It had no windshield or rear glass but had a complete door with hardware and glass. I would guess the door alone is 60-75 lbs. The cab is more like 250lb. With four guys it is easy work.

Here is the radiator support I just got done with.
I mounted an electric fan off an 86 camaro onto it.I am going to make it look a better.I am just glad it fit though. I will be pulling the cab off the frame this weekend.

I was lucky enough to have a good friend with a truck like this to lift the cab off and then come back when I was ready to put it back on.
