Re: 1990 GMC Suburban ... Cummins Powered
Managed to find time on Saturday to get the front end all finished up , I sent the toe at 3/16 toe in and that should be in the ball park , may have to fine tune the steering wheel once I get her out for road trials .
Got all the door panels fully assembled last week so going to move on to the dash area and make a little pick list that will finalize with painting the chassis . Hope to be on the road in a month or so . |

Subscribed! I just read an article in one of the diesel rags doing a cummins swap into one of these burbs, this is much better IMHO.

Re: 1990 GMC Suburban ... Cummins Powered
Thanks guys , had a little set back last night ... I had the entire steering column out at the start of the build but did not pay too much attention to it til now .
I was doing a removable steering wheel and pulled the wheel and it was just all bad , I was going to tare it down to the tilt and rebuild with parts I had . I had another tilt column that was like new so I tore out the one in the truck . Sucks because I had installed a Borgenson steering shaft all loctite in place ... Some time you have to go back to move forward . |

Re: 1990 GMC Suburban ... Cummins Powered
I managed to get the truck moved up front of my building over the weekend for some road testing in my industrial park ... she runs good , had to put a waterpump on her , should have done that before the motor was installed ... less than a hour one belt and two bolts ...
She seems pretty happy , I do have to add a sway bar , it rides like a caddy but in the corners has a little more body roll than I would like . I am looking at doing a reverse sway bar with shackles if I have the room , the shackle will allow the spring to have the same ride and for the spring to pivot back wards but still work as a sway bar for side to side movement . Keep you posted , not many pic's today . |

Re: 1990 GMC Suburban ... Cummins Powered
Hey Guys , Hope everyone had a great memorial day , I have been doing road testing for a week or two prior to this past weekend , found I did need some roll control .
I designed a air bag system as my sway bar and it worked just perfect to control the load in the cornering . Basiclly got her on the road and run better than just about any truck I have built to date . hydro assist works flawless , my 3/16 toe in was perfect . Still have some fine tuning to do but I took the truck home last saturday and just going to enjoy driving it for a while . I will post a few more outdoor pics , hope my build was not to boring ...LOL Sorry about the small pics but my camera took a crap and am using the phone til I get another . |

Re: 1990 GMC Suburban ... Cummins Powered
Awesome sway control! I bet it feels great to hop in it and go cruising finally! The build was not boring.

Re: 1990 GMC Suburban ... Cummins Powered
I still have to get some pic's of the truck on the road ... I got the camera working again but I can't believe the amount of crap I collected to build this truck ... I'm still cleaning up a month later .
This is a pile of the left over parts . |
