new to the board
hello everyone, i am new to the board, i am building a 1970 c-10 with a 292 6 cyl,and a four speed trans. this is the first 6 cyl that i have tried to stay with most of the time i just drop in a v-8 and go, i have found out the hard way that if you need anything for a 292 you will have to build it or pay big bucks for parts, like a/c brackets, power steering brackets, i did build the a/c brackets but the power steering brackets i found on e-bay, they are on the way from the guy that makes them, look like a good set up. i have been working on the pickup ( ole dollar) for a little over a year, and have done a lot so far, trying to make it a good driver, and will try and make it pretty later on, just wanted to say hello and that i just found this site, and read a lot of the post and decided to join in and maybe get some answers on my project, and maybe help someone else with theirs. one day i hope to finish ole dollar and have something to be proud of. again hello .......don

Re: new to the board
brianthelion02 :the ac was a very easy bracket to make, i made my on, the power steering i think is the hardest bracket to come up with or make your self.
i found one already made up on ebay and it is being ship to me . just waiting on it to get here, while i am putting on the power steering ,i will also try and put the new cab mounts on, my cab mounts are shot, if any one has put cab mounts on with out removing the whole cab, as in just raising up the cab and slipping the new mounts please let me know what problems i will have and what all needs to be unbolted. thanks...don |

Re: new to the board
i like it!!
genuine honest daily driver workhorse. interesting to see the stepside long wheelbase with spare wheel holder on side. had to look at it a couple of times to work out why it looked different from mine 1970%20chevy%20p%20u%20%20barn%20find%20001

Re: new to the board
well that didn't work too well---tried to copy your side on picture and post above mine!!!
you should be able to just jack the cab up a couple of inches each side and replace the mounts without to much bother.i did it with mine after i forgot too put the top steel washer on between cab bottom and new mounts and everything was bolted back together.

Re: new to the board
thanks sharpmark i guess that is what i will try, so far it looks like the master cylinder .rad. . and clutch peddle rod ,carpet, seat and seat belts, may have to be out of the way to lift up the cab about 3" or 4 ". i am going to try and do this when i do the change to power steering, maybe with in the next two weeks. also a question on non power steering, is everyone with standard steering on these model pickups real hard to steer, i mean real hard at slow speeds, my son has a 1963 c-10 that has standard steering that can be driven at slow speeds with the palm of your hand...mine takes both hands to turn.
what is yours like... |

Re: new to the board
i changed mine to pwr steering because it was bloody hard to turn at low speeds.as for the cab mounts i don't think you need to go up more then a couple of inches to do it and as i said i lifted mine with brakes, clutch peddle guards etc mounted.the rear bolts are undone from underneath and have captured nuts at the top so apart from getting some crc lube onto the nut i think you should be able to leave seat and seatbelts in.the front mounts have a bolt that comes from the top down so you'll need to lift carpet to get at that.
if you look for Bruce88's post called "its just a pickup" (top of the list under 67-72 projects and builds) and find page 18 post number 446 it shows the setup of the body mounts and will give you a better understanding of how they go. good luck- mark
