Are all Dually's Dana 70?

Hey guys, got a question. I've been doing some reading on the internet and found one interesting tidbit. A couple of threads I read stated that all Cab and Chassis rear ends were Chevy 14, and all other "wide track" Duallys were Dana 70. Is this correct? As I attempt to change my single wheel Chevy 14 rear to a Dual, it has been pretty much a maided voyage for me as I hit a wall with the single wheel drums and dually extended studs. The rim will not go in deep enough to bolt on. Which means I need a Dually Drum which is spaced wider and may not match up....I was under the impression that after a certain year, the Chevy 14 rear end was a standard, and whatever option you decided to purchase. I also figured the rear wheel and single wheel (other than cab and chassis, which we know is not as wide) were the same as well as long as the hubs and drums were swapped, just like the Dana 60 front which was way too easy.

Thx in advance....have a great weekend everybody.....

Re: Are all Dually's Dana 70?

I was told the dually backing plate mount location and backing plate are different than single wheel rear ends. I do know the drums and backing plates are interchangeable beween the dual wheel dana 70 and the dual wheel 14 bolt. So you will need to go with a dually conversion(wheel spacers) for the single wheel axle or find a true dual wheel axle.
