Re: Power Brake Booster

The brackets on that booster look similar to the ones used on the '67-'72 truck boosters. For those asking, this booster will not bolt up to an original firewall without drilling holes.

Re: Power Brake Booster

Actually it did bolt right up in the same holes the original master cylinder uses(see older photo with out the booster). behind the firewall is a factory backing plate and factory thread like nuts.

a drum/drum reman MC for a 70 Impala should bolt right up ($23 including core from Advance), you should be able to borrow a tube bender no charge from Advance, or other automotive parts jobber. Just sayin, as long as you are on the brake update.
Thanks for all of the info, even if new holes need to be drilled, this looks like a great way to go on the power brake upgrade

well, up here, in the great white north, we have jobber called part source, they lend out specialized tools at no charge. If you look at the splitting the lines thread, you will see that you can buy pre-flared tubes in varying lengths to work with If you can borrow a bender, should be real inexpensive to complete. If you need to shorten a tube (make sure you use a tube cutter), you could always take it somewhere where they can flare it for you (brake shop, hydraulic shop), just make sure they do the double flare.
The thread you want to look at is

I won't be tackling mine until this fall, love to see/hear, how you make out.

Re: Power Brake Booster

I only see 2 bolts used. IMO there should be 4 bolts attaching the booster to the firewall and pedal bracket.

Re: Power Brake Booster

Yes you are right on that, it doesn't seem for the other 2 holes need to be drilled. I do not notice any movement at all.

Re: Power Brake Booster

Curious to know if you have been driving it, and how the booster is functioning. I would think that it would be wise to drill the other two holes and add two more bolts mind you... maybe that is what caused the failure on the old unit

ALSO, was the rod the one that was already used on your previous booster, or did it come with the new booster?

Re: Power Brake Booster

Yes the booster works great! There was only 2 bolts holding the original MC to truck and you had to push alot harder to stop it compared to the power booster which you press very lightly now, as there is 50% less pressure applied. Plus the last booster was on for 10 plus years before with no trouble.

How / where does this mount?

There is a rod made on the booster and a adjustable rod hooked to brake pedal. I will try to take photos and post asap.
