Can you ID this rear-

The rear end in my 69 is starting to get noisy and clanky at take off. As I call around to get rebuild estimates how do I refer to it. Do I just call it a 12 bolt Chevy? Can this be built into a posi rear end? Or is there something else I could bolt in instead of rebuilding this one. I am also considering adding disc brakes while I'm at it.

Thanks in advance as I am totally ignorant when it comes to rear end work.

Dennis

Yes, that is just a corporate 12 bolt rear end. You can have a posi installed (what i'm doing). GMC Pauls sells a disc brake kit for this rearend.

12 bolts are known to be a very good rear end and I would definately have it rebuilt before going and getting another.

Isn't there a series of letters /numbers stamped on the top right side of those rearends to tell what they are? Should say something like HM,MH--3.36 POSI,HC,TU,HN,MJ---3.73 POSI, JQ,TV,HO,HP,MK,MI--4.11 POSI......

Rear end

Good luck withit. I just dropped $900 to get my 69s 3.07 12 bolt redone this spring. Was toying with going posi but decided since its a daily driver in snowy conditions its wasn't worth adding another $400-500 to get a little more traction. JM.02s
