Camshaft condition question..
We bought a kit from Northern, and I was curious is this is normal condition for said cam? This is right out of the box, so ..
Sorry for the quality; they're taken on my phone.

Re: Camshaft condition question..
Looks like other cams I have bought or seen, except for rollers. Always looks less than impressive, but I guess that's one of several reasons for the break in period.

Re: Camshaft condition question..
I would have thought those surfaces would be a little smoother.

Re: Camshaft condition question..
looks like a re-ground cam to me.... They take old cams and grind them into a mild performance cam. Kinda like grinding a crankshaft

Re: Camshaft condition question..
So, this would be okay to use then; since we're rebuilding our 400 at some point this week..

It looks like a normal new camshaft to me.

Re: Camshaft condition question..
The heat treating / hardnening process doesn't leave the metal looking very pretty now does it.

Re: Camshaft condition question..
Looks normal to me too. Between the lobes always looks rough. That cam might be heat treated or Nitrided... that's why it looks dark and "un-smooth".
