Where did you find your truck?

I found my truck while reading the Truck Trader (Nashville) and my future truck was located at Mikes Auto Sales in Celina Tn. I still have that Truck Trader. I picked up the Truck Trader that Tuesday afternoon. and found the add: 1970 C10 402BB, AC, Buckets, 400 Automatic. Gauges with Tach. $2400. I called and got Mike and he stayed open for me. I left a deposit and drove it home a couple weeks later. That's another story. Mike said he must have sold the truck to cheap as he said the phone was ringing off the walls. This was in 2001

Found mine at a Chevy dealership. It had just been traded in so they hadn't 'detailed' it yet, which meant I got to see exactly what kind of condition it was in. This was in 1977....

I could not find a 72 short bed truck anywhere in Ga for sale in my price range ,$3000 or less in driving condition .I kept looking and had a few friends looking as well and did not know about this board or it would have been a little easier .One of my friends in North Carolina called me and told me about one another friend of his had for the past 30 years that was somewhat rough but ran and drove and he needed cash and was willing to talk to me about it.I called him and he told me to come on up and look at it but he would not promise that he could let it go when I got there.He had been hounded for years by others wanting it and he didnt want it seen locally if it wasnt still his. I told him if he sold it to me it would be restored to very nice condition as I could afford to and when finished he could see and drive it if he wanted and I would send him progress pics as I went .We agreed on a price and I started driving it daily for about a year and working on it as I had time and money.My wife then told me to sell her 68 Malibu project and fix the truck the way I wanted it with the proceeds and it is still in bodyshop prison but will bebetter than new when done.

Craigslist about 60 miles away. A 68 shortbed that had been sitting for 20 years on the side of a barn. Got the protecto plate and all original paperwork. Was sold at Chase Chevrolet in Stockton about 12 miles from my house.

Craigslist find (earlier this year). Had been looking off and on for the past year, to find one for a daily driver that was in good mechanical condition.

My son and I took off from San Angelo to drive down to the Killeen and Austin area to look at a few. Ended up buying the '72 I have now. Drove it back from Killeen to San Angelo, no problems at all.

A buddy I met lookin for parts on CL. Turns out he only lives 10 minutes from me. went over to look at some parts, and we just kinda became friends. i would stop by and see him on my way home from work, and help him with whatever projects he had going on. I had found an a/c cab for my '72, and called him to see if he wanted to check it out with me. When I stopped by, he gave me a chance to buy a 69 swb stepside he had been planning to keep for himself. It is virtuallly rust free, and runs like a dream!!

American classifieds (Tulsa Okla area) in Jan 2012. Small ad with hardly any info. Saw it a few months in a row and thought, what the heck, I'm gonna call. Ended up being a one owner bought from Scott Chevrolet in Oklahoma City in Sept '72. The guy still had the original tailgate he removed when the truck was 2 weeks old. We agreed on 1500.00. I hauled it to Canada. (it had been sitting out in the open for the past 20 years)

Browsing Autotempest.com, which combines all the Craigslists.
The seller didn't want to deal with me at first because I was on the other side of the country and he thought I was a scam artist.
Flew out to California from Connecticut for the day, drove it about 50 miles, paid cash, stayed about 8 hours, flew back and had the truck shipped back to Conn (which took 2 weeks).

Just a couple of blocks from my house. Had been sitting in their back yard for 6 or 8 years, was her fathers truck. On my way home from work one day, it was up front when a for sale sign in it. Stopped, looked and test drove. They wanted more than I wanted to spend, so I thought I would give it a few days before I went back. The following week I came by and someone was checking it out. I got home and gathered my cash and went back and scored, $3700.00. That was February 2011.

I bought my SWB GMC from a State Trooper who had it sitting on his driveway for about a year. I would see it everyday on my way to and from work. I finally stopped one day and asked him if he would sell it. At first he hesitated and then his wife walked out and heard our conversation and she said "sell it!!" it is in the way of the new Tahoe. I paid $2500.00 and he threw in a brand new crate engine he had bought for the truck that was sitting in his garage.

I n April of 1972 my deceased father in law found his on the local chevy dealership lot 3 days after he hit a deer with the 65 he bought new.He paid $2217.33 for it.Mother in law said he liked of cryed when he wrote the check.Still have the receipt for it.

Had a 4X4 69 Blazer many years ago that I found on a Ford dealers lot. Talked them down from $1,900 to $1,600 and bought it.

My 69 stepside I found in a nearby town while out cruising my 72 Chevelle. Sitting on the main street with a for sale sign on it. Got that one for $1,000

My 71 Cheyenne 20 found me. Was washing my 69 Chevelle in my front yard and the owner stopped and asked if I wanted to buy a parts truck. Said I could have it for $100. Looked in my wallet and said I only had $50 and he said he'd take that. He even delivered it to me! I couldn't part it so I fixed it up and it's my daily driver now.

My Custom 30 wrecker I found in a junkyard. Asked yard owner if it was for parts but he wasn't sure what he was doing with it. About a month or so later, I found it down in the yard. Bought some parts from it and just couldn't get it out of my mind that weekend. Decided to see if I could buy the whole truck to restore! It worked out and I bought it for $1,000. I'm restoring it now and it will see the road again possibly next summer. Build thread on this one is located here:

Three times one week I drove pass and said to myself "what a waste, rusting away." A couple weeks later coming up on the truck from a different direction a small, faded for sale taped to the tailgate. $700.00 and it's mine. 72 short step, all original except for rims and battery and a pile of paper work including the protecto plate.

I found mine on craigslist. I had an 88 Chevy 4x4 in really good shape and he was willing to trade. Why I gave up a perfectly good running 4x4 for a project I'll never know... Well, OK, I know why I did it. I guess I'm just crazy.

Found mine on a lot on the side of the road.It was sitting there on Easter weekend of 1997 and I stopped to look at it.I was working on a 67 at the time,and really would have liked to have a running driving one but hadn't really thought about buying one.My wife was with me,wednesday I came in from work and the wife said"Don't make any plans for the weekend," "Why" 'We bought that truck.We have to go to Wichita Falls and pick it up."She had gotten the number while I was looking.

The truck I was driving died (88 Toyota 4X4) I was wanting a older Chevy truck. I looked at a few pre 67, but they all needed to much work for the price. One morning I was looking in the Sunday paper Classifieds and found this one for $1500. Then and now.

In a backyard , Corinth ms. Knocked on his door once , not for sale. Did a road trip about a year later , chasing lies of of craigslist. Drove from Niagara falls , canada , to nashville , to birminham al. , back thru corinth - nothing. Knocked on his door again - $800. on the trailer. That was fall 2010.
