rear frame dimensions

Ive got a 1962 chevy k10 swb fleetside and im thinking about buying the boyd efi gas tank in next couple of days because they are having a special for it. I was curious if the tank would fit in my frame? The tank dimensions are 26.5 x 19 x 10 i would measure it myself but my truck is parked in my buddies barn and im not sure ill get the chance to get down there to measure it before the sale is done. Dave Boyd makes a great tank. I installed one of his tanks in my '66 and it fit, but not without a few modifications. First, the factory spare tire crossmember has to be removed which is pretty easy. The 26.5" measurement is perfect to fit between the frame rails, but the 19" measurement front-to-back is about 1" too long. Our trucks (I assume the K series is the same) have a crossmember that is installed somewhat crooked from the factory (I read somewhere on here in order to increase shear stiffness of the frame...someone correct me if I'm wrong). I had to drill out the rivets and knock that crossmember back about 1/2" to get the tank to fit. Ideally, he would make a tank that fits directly without modification, but it would lose some valuable capacity. Dave will make any tank you wish for additional cost, though.

See here for a tech article on how to install the stainless steel tank made by Early Classic. Their tanks are also nice, but VERY expensive. Their solution to the crossmember problem is to remove the original and install a new one further back on the frame. I think my solution of drilling out the rivets on the narrow side of the crossmember works just as well and enables the installation of a much more affordable tank.

Your truck being a K10, the frame is going to be different than a '60-'62 C10 frame. Your frame should be more like a '63-'72 C or K series frame. Although I can't say for certain if it is exactly the same. Is yours a shortbed or a longbed?

I was thinking Dave Boyd made some changes to his tanks a while back, to compensate for the issues SFTorange mentioned.
