Which windshield gasket
I just purchased a 71 burb. The P/O had new front glass installed, but he said the installer told him he had the wrong gasket. The truck has the stainless trim. The gasket has a groove in it for the trim.
Are there multiple gaskets for trucks with trim or are they specific to different years? The trim is in good shape, but the lip seals on the trim need to be replaced. Does anyone sell those?

Read this thread. There are other threads on this subject but this one pretty much covers it. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=451740 LockDoc

Re: Which windshield gasket
Thanks LockDoc
What about the lip seals on the stainless trim, can you buy them separately?

Re: Which windshield gasket
I am going to attempt to replace the windshield in a '70 GMC with trim. Check out this episode of My Classic Car. They replace one in a '67 or '68 C10 with the deluxe trim, and show a video (commercial) from Steele Rubber Products.
The key, as previously stated, is having the correct gasket for the trim, installing the gasket to the windshield, trim to gasket, lots of soapy water, rope and a helper. They swear in the video that it's not that complicated, and they do make it look easy. I have used Steele Rubber products in the past with great success. Try this link. www.myclassiccar.com/episode/14/ Good luck! NoNeck

I'm not sure what you mean by "lip seals". LockDoc

Re: Which windshield gasket
I'm not having much luck either. The trim I received loose with the truck has a flat strip of rubber, maybe 3/4" wide that runs along the inside edge of the trim. Maybe its remnants of the old gasket? I'll have to inspect further tonight.

Part of the old gasket would be my guess. There isn't any other seal except for the windshield gasket... LockDoc

Re: Which windshield gasket
I've never installed a windshield in one of these trucks so I'm not going to try and say I know how to do it.
I have seen that other thread as well as the video before. They say that the SS trim tightens up the rubber when it is installed. I wouldn't argue with that statement. Has anyone here ever tried to install the SS trim after the rubber and glass is installed in the window opening? Some years ago I installed the windshield in a '69 B-Body Mopar. It uses a trim piece that fits in a slot in the rubber, very much like these trucks. I cut the old rubber out just like they did in the video. Without the SS trim piece the glass almost fell into the window opening. The inside lip of the rubber lifted over the pinch weld with very little resistance. After placing the SS trim in the slot, an extra little push locked it into the rubber. This spread and tightened the rubber against the glass and against the pinch weld. I can't help but wonder if that isn't the way this truck window trim is supposed to be installed.

Re: Which windshield gasket
I installed the windshield in my 67 last week with the original trim using a Precision gasket. I did it without a helper and no soap, only tool I used was a plastic trim tool from harbor freight. It wasn't difficult, just takes patience. It took me about 2 hours from start to finish including pulling the old windshield, cleaning windshield channel on the truck, installing the gasket on the new windshield, installing the trim, and then putting the windshield in. I put the bottom in first and then worked it around so it was well seated before working on the sides and eventually the top. The hardest part will be the upper corners, I'm sure soap will make it easier.
