bad day

today like any other day i wake up for work and i have a stye on my right eye
then at work i badly burn my hand on the exhaust manifold of the tractor at work while working on it
I got to school alright and got my door fixed, the only good thing today
then on my way home at about 9:45 i notice my dash, and headlights are getting dim and fast so i pull over and check it out and my alternator has gone bad, so i try to call dad but my phone dies and so i go in the store and they do not allow customers to use the phone so i have to go across the street then finally half an hour later dad shows up and i put my spare alternator on and the battery he borrowed from my brothers car to be safe and he followed my home, but was none to happy with me as i had to call him last night because i snapped an alternator belt and the alt. fan was destroyed by the alt. bracket because the alt. had come loose, and to top that Pep Boys sold me a bad alternator because they where the only place close at the time, well make a long story short i have had a pretty bad day but i thought i would share.

that does suck...alot worse than my day...I woke up about 7 am because our damn kitten wiggled my bedroom door open and started to eat a piece of paper on the floor (luckily not hw). I wasn't planning on getting up til 12-1, because I don't have class on Thurs. and didn't have to work til 4 . I go downstairs, look out the window, to see snow all over my truck. Talk about depressing. Rest of my day was pretty much blah from there.

how did u know that ur alternator was bad. was it frozen up or something. does anybody know how to test an alternator without getting the gauges out? someone said pull one of thebattery terminals off while its running and if it keeps running its ok. i dont remember which. i tried it. first the positive on the 70 and it died. then i tried the negative on the 72 and it died. so does anybody know of the real test?

what you do is stick i screwdriver or wrench to the center of the back of it while it is running and it should be magnetized plus i knew cause the lights where out and the truck did not have enough juice to even crank the motor or even turn on the radio

The negitive wire is the one you want to remove and this is not really good to do cause it can cause a voltage spike in the system... The screw driver trick work's really well also..
