Been 4 yrs wow turn back time

"ah-satan"- spell it backwords and its natasha

When I first brought the poor thing home the paint was faded the trim smacked the side of the truck on the hwy. it smoked like a whore and had a boner in the tonneu that lasted longer than 4 hours haha. I could hardly hit 55 with the old 305 but a few timing adjustments hacking the exhuast and chucking the a/c smog and powersteering and a new carb and it topped 105 on the flats haha. I got a best of 32mpg with that 305 and 700r4 and those damned 2:73 gears but it was fun to be at 1500rpm at 75 haha heck ten dollars got me everywhere when i took the highway

Fast forward to now i got my dash fixed. Some iroc gauges a 377 backed by a th350 and "better" 3:08 gears im lowered like i always wanted my 20 yr old tonneu met its demise and the trim was off on day two haha, the suspension is all new and my projector headlights give it a look all its own. Looking back i see how far its come and looking to the future how far it can go. The journey has been blood sweat and tears but worth it none the less. All the storys and misadventures that has created enough storys with me and my friends to write a small book haha

So thats my "turn back time" moment

Re: Been 4 yrs wow turn back time

i got some pretty good mpg with my 350/sm465/2.73 on the highways heading over to eastern WA even though i had 800 lbs in the bed. sucks balls in town though

i actually talked to my uncle about your truck today. he races out at monroe with his preludes and he is building up his 81 short fleet into a race style truck

In town my power valve doesnt open so it almost lean surges. Keeps it decent mileage that way

Re: Been 4 yrs wow turn back time

I have no idea how you guys coax such great mileage out of your trucks. Even on the highway, I've never broken 13 mpg. I've got a 305/TH350 and 2.73:1 gears. It's a GM crate 305 with an Edelbrock 1406 and it's tuned fairly well and STILL I barely manage 11 mpg in mixed driving!

Your first prob is the transmision you need O/D and lockup converter. Then there is rule 15 of engines. If its an edelbrock carb sure it will never stop working but it works good in the trash too.

A qjet will get the best mileage

I had a tuned qjet. K&n filter in the stock housing with all the aircleaner baffles out and heat riser taped off and the intake tube that gos to the core support was made to allow a straight path for air not a plastic barrier. Then some 1-1/2 tube primary headers to some small glaspacks No powersteering no a/c and the hei springs modified and timeing done right. It was great on the hwy and decent in the city
