67-68 vs 69-72 gmc core support

I'm changing the front end on my gmc from 69-72 front end to 67-68 front end. I have been told by several that they are the same. I have also heard that the only difference is mounting holes on the bottom are different sizes. All your expert advice will be greatly appreciated.

The difference is the 67/68s have threaded mounting holes for the splash pan...which you don't have to use.
