Re: stepside taillights
For something like a period looking replacement without being a trailer or big truck light I'd look at a set from Speedway. They have the 37-38 in stock, blue dot, and LED in a stainless case. Also, they offer the 40-53 lights in stainless with LEDs as well.

I really like the skinny verticle LED strips. I was gonna build a stepside at one time and i was gonna do mine like these. I like how slick it looks

Re: stepside taillights
I used these
http://www.empirechromeshop.com/p-15...tal-light.aspx I just cut and bent my stock mounts so the lights are almost flush with the bedsides. I'll try to get a pic at some point... They are "single face" with a chrome housing.

Re: stepside taillights
to dkauffman are you using the bumper or a rollpan. i was going through this problem when redoing my bed. i really like the look of the 55-59 chevy truck lights if you have a bumper and like the stock location. i'm gonna end up with a roll pan back on mine so for know i have some big 17" led bars on the back of my bed that i will cover up with the roll pan and cut the holes out to give it a flush look.

Re: stepside taillights
I am using a fleetside bumper i have cut down to fit a stepside. Kinda want to mount something in the stock location but closer to the bumper. I do like the 55-59 lights might go that direction.

Re: stepside taillights
The 60-66 stepside taillights don't look too bad either.

Re: stepside taillights
I know they aren't non-original but I have to agree with Dano69c10. I personally have the stainless 55-59 taillights and I like the look.

Re: stepside taillights
Model A tail lamps look hot. I prefer using early GM truck tail lamps:

Re: stepside taillights
I used 60-66 tail lights. They mount on the stock brackets. The 55-59 lights require specific brackets, but still mount into stock bolt holes. Do a search on Tim Christian. He has the 55-59 lights on his.
Here's mine.

Re: stepside taillights
Alot of guys also drop the taillights down to the reverse light location. I know CheyenneShortstep did this on his truck.

Re: stepside taillights
I never liked the look of the lights hanging off the side of the bed. I found these LED lights and cut and welded a pocket in the bumper. They fit well between the mounting bolts and cleaned up the back of the truck.

Re: stepside taillights
I bought these oval motorcycle tail lights off ebay a year or two back. They bolted right into the stock supports without modification. Search motorcycle tail lights an you will see some cool stuff.

Re: stepside taillights
I think I'd like to get some of those, and mount them vertically.

Re: stepside taillights
I like the look of the oval shape. I found some that I really like made by Lokar--but havent decided to pay the price yet.
Im going to make new brackets and mount them vertically. Would love to keep the back up lights---but havent figured that one out yet.

Here is my stock lights dropped to the backup light position as Dano69 mentioned.
The red '67 belongs to my buddy Fred. Not sure what lights he used but they look good. |
