speedo noise

Lately, after about 20 minutes on the highway my speedo starts making an intermittent noise sort of like a cicada bug. Scared me to death when I first heard it - I thought something electric was shorting out under the dash.

Anyway, before I go through the trouble of removing it, what's involved in opening it up; or can it even be disassembled at all? Sounds like it just needs a little shot of lube.

Re: speedo noise

I would just unhook the cable from the dash and drive it for a ways and see if it's in the cable or in the speedo. Your cable might need lubing or it may be frayed.

Re: speedo noise

I'm not sure I want to drive it on the highway without a speedo - if my foot slips off the brake, I might get up over 200 mph and not even know it.
