1972 Blazer

Hello everyone! Just recently picked up my first blazer, and beginning the process of determining the order of of things i'll be fixing up on it. When i purchased it from the po i was told that it was all original, and never restored. The odometer read 4700 miles which the po insisted was actual and that it didn't roll over. lol. The truck was in good shape, but the wear indicated it was 104k. I really didn't care either way, i just wanted the thing. The truck bed sides were lined in hardwood, which of course i was told was original as well. Once i purchased it i wanted to get more info about the truck so started searching around and found it listed for sale on a site a few years back. It verified my thought that it was an older restoration with 104k, and the hardwood was added. Truck is in good shape with the exception of some bubbling paint in a few spots, leaking steering gear box, and other seal leaks. Going to start with the gear box replacement, and take it from there. Also need to get the radio figured out. I had hoped the dash was already cut since an aftermarket was in there but it wasnt, and i just cant bring my self to cut it. Will probably go with the retrosound or possibly a rebuild or different mounting spot.

Nice blazer and welcome. I am not terribly far from you, I have a 72 as well but not in that shape. You get it local or out of state?

Re: 1972 Blazer

Thanks Guys! I ended up finding it locally on craigslist. Had been looking for a while, but most of them in this area are usually rusted out. I learned my lesson when i previously purchased 2 scouts with rust issues and didn't have the skill level, time, or patience to fix them. lol

Re: 1972 Blazer

Looks solid. The wood is odd, but it doesn't look bad. I'm not a fan of the bugshield, but all three of the blazers I've owned have had them. I just don't get them.

Re: 1972 Blazer

Checked the steps today and couldn't find a part number or manufacturer. Sorry, but i like them too so not selling. I'll post on here if i find any info about them.

So going to order a gear box replacement and was curious if anyone here had experience with the redhead boxes. Curious if it is worth the additional $ to upgrade from the gear box that can be picked up from autozone? Thanks

Re: 1972 Blazer

Was that the one the guy listed in Westmont? I live in New Lenox so we are actually neighbors. It would be nice to maybe bump into another K5 owner.

Re: 1972 Blazer

Hey Chad! Welcome to the board! It was nice to meet you as well. Youve got a great rig there. Looks great the way it is except for that bug deflector LOL. This place will help you with anything you need to know or do to your truck. If you need anything or if I could help in any way just let me know as well. See you at shows. Now one day if we could just get Ridnhi and Briank at a show with us as well...
