5/7 Drop Kit?

Anybody have a cheap/used 5/7 drop kit they want to get rid of? I want one hardcore but don't have $600 to blow on just a drop. Let me know.

P.S. In the kit, are rear leaf springs included? Just checkin, cuz I need new ones...

Thanks,
- Ben

All I can say is good luck...
I did a 3/5 (I'm going 5/7 later on) and it wasn't cheap
I got DJM 3" Drop Spindles from Summit for $250, DJM 5" Flip Kit for $75, Doetsch Tech Shocks for $35 each, and the PST Front Kit for $275...I still have to get 2" Drop Springs for $75 and 2" Drop Shackles for $50

If I absolutely have to buy the new kit, then thats what I'll do cuz it would probably be cheaper anyway, plus it comes w/shocks.

I tried but ur box is full. One of my friends has been talkin to me about an air 4 link and I'm starting to lean towards that.
But it all depends on what you want to let it go for. You can buy a new kit for $540.

Buy the rear flip kit w/some shock extenders from SportTruckDirect & some front spindles, then cut 1 coil off your stock front springs. I relocated my stock front shock mounts 1.5" higher (no welding) & used regular stock shocks. Works well enough for your avatar benscool1......

You can make your own shock brackets w/2"square 3/16" mild steel tubing if you can cut w/a sawzall & use a drill......

or you can purchase them through AirRide for like 10ea/20pair + the ride.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

OK, what do you think of 4 links? I've been starting to lean towards a 4 link and an air ride system...

I personally like the IDEA of a 4-link..... but I like doing everything myself & I don't have a welder @ home. That being said, it all depends on your goals/plans w/the truck.

If it's got a stout small blk or a big block, spring wrap up will be an issue w/2 leafs & bags compared to a 4-link. If you've got a small budget & stock(ish) motor, air over leaf works well, is easier to install, costs less.

So my vote is the static drop 1st; then as $ permit, go air over leaf; then if you encounter wheel hop from spring wrap-up.... spend for the 4-link. You can get one pretty freakin' low w/the first 2 options.

ok, so air over leaf? I think I might go with that, and then go with a 4-link. Does it matter what 2 springs I take out? I have one leaf that is actually broken, its one of the middle ones i think. Could I take that one out?

You leave the 2 longest springs in place.

If you wanna get out of this REALLY cheap, then just MAKE your own flip kit bracket..it's real damn simple. It's just basically a piece of metal! Then, wack some coils out up front (I'd say take off one FULL coil, but you have to CUT it with a sawzall and NOT let the spring get hot!) Then, just order a set of shocks for a 3" Coil Drop, and the stock shocks with shock extenders should work in the back. All in all, you're gonna prolly spend $175 for shocks and then of course get an alignment. Badda bing.
BTW: Here's what came in my DJM 3/5 Drop Kit...

The axle relocator pads/perches that come w/the WesternChassis flip kit from SportTruckDirect have c-shaped gussets welded to the c-channel & their shock extensions are thicker guage material from my experience (I compared someone elses DJM stuff w/the WC stuff..... but the guy could've been wrong about the parts actually being DJM's).

I feel mine is on the fringe of acceptability w/just 1 coil cut. The ride is still good enough for a daily grinder.... bags would smooth that even more. The biggest problem is I only have about 1-2" travel before buzzing the inner fenderwell tops (if that's considered a problem).

I have a truck, its just not lookin too great right now, seeing as its in about 3 big piles...engine, cab, rolling chassis and bed(w/parts in it). Plus I haven't got the pics I took when I first got it developed yet.

Tim, i hate to say it, but you got screwed on that flip kit. no side to side bracing at all. wouldnt take much to crush it, which would then leave you with loose u-bolts and a rear end housing not securely mounted to the truck. Western Chassis stuff is way better constructed.

I wasn't raggin on you not having your truck. I was giving my buddy Scoti some grief about no pic in his avatar. :p

Like I said, I would take it as a great compliment if someone used a pic of my truck as their avatar, instead of their own...

Uhh..actually, there's a hole in those |_| shaped pieces, that locates the spring pack in it, so it holds it secure..trust me DJM pieces are top quality.

There's a hole in all flip kit axle relocator brackets to clear the bolt holding the spring pack together & re-position the axle correctly for the drop.

The DJM relocator is prob very good quality stuff..... the W.Chassis is just better because of the extra bracing.
