How to understand assembly manual model designations?
In the assembly manual there are often differentiations in instructions by model, but I'm not 100% sure I understand how to read them.
Usually there is a prefix (C, K, M, CA, KA, SA) and a postfix (100, 200, 300, 400,500, 600). I would guess that C and K are 2WD and 4WD, and my first thought was that 100=1/2 ton, 200=3/4 ton and so on, but what's with the 400/500/600? I don't think the assembly manual covers the medium duty trucks. I also don't know what the difference between C and CA (or K and KA for that matter) is. On my SPID my truck is a CE26034, which other than the "C" part doesn't map to much. Could someone who knows chime on how to read them, or point me

Re: How to understand assembly manual model designations?
Dave, You are on the right track. Here I will try to break down some of the more relevant designations for you.
C= Conventional cab trucks, like our pickups. K= Conventional 4X4 applications CA= Is simply Conventional all but may be range limited like 10-30 KA= Again all 4X4s CS or KS would be conventional trucks with an I6 engine CE or KE would be conventional trucks with a V8. G vehicles are the classic Chevy vans and may be seen in GA GS GE as well. P series or PA are the boxy forward control step vans DD is another step van MH is the motor-home chassis (think drivable frame here) 10-90/1500-9500 are series designations related to the GVW range. For our purposes 10-30/1500-3500 rated at 3900-14,000 lbs GVW are of mos interest. However often parts from other ranges and models carry over. The air pressure and vacuum gages come to mind as Med duty 40-60 parts that are a popular fit in pickups and assemble pretty much the same way. There is a LOT more to this but this should help.

Re: How to understand assembly manual model designations?
Thanks very much, that's great info. What about the 100/200/300/400/500/600? Is it as simple as C10, C20, C30, C40, C50 and C60 (for a C model, anyway) or is it more complicated?

Re: How to understand assembly manual model designations?
Yes, Things can get a little blury like a C30 with 11k rear but overall where you are and what you are doing it will work for you.
