Seems high to me. Also his description of the blue book value is dreaming.
And i'm probably wrong but I didnt know about any factory floor shifters for automatics. Sounds like a used car salesman to me. |

Re: 70 GMC longbed stepside (not mine)
Long bed steps aren't "that" rare. And whatever a T400 Auto "on the floor" is, I have no idea. But it's prolly just a TH400 with an aftermarket Automatic floor shift. Nothing from the factory came as an "automatic on the floor" that I know of.
Nothing special about the "Invader 350" either. That was just a name they were using for truck engines I believe. Just like the Turbo-fire, and Turbo-thrift were others The General used. Gary

Re: 70 GMC longbed stepside (not mine)
I think it's not a terribly high price for that. I think it's obvious what a floor shift TH400 is. I didn't see the seller claim any of that was factory. In fact,he mentioned "swaps". I don't see any extraordinary claims and his asking price is less than half of the book value low he listed. Why are people here so critical of those trying to make an honest deal?
As far as book value goes, there is no book value on any truck 40 or more years old. KBB is full of crap trying to come alone and put book values on vehicles they know nothing about and can't possibly be standardized into any distinct groups after all these years, all the various repairs, quality of work/parts,and on and on. Makes you wonder why, until old car buying became mainstream,Kelly used to drop vehicles off the radar after just 5 years.

Re: 70 GMC longbed stepside (not mine)
Is it a 3/4 ton? If so, try and get an idea on if it is an Eaton (round cover) or Dana 60 (more angualr square cover) and what gear ratio it it running. Some had really deep gears which will get TERRIBLE fuel mileage. In my experience, Dana 60's are easier to find better gear ratios for.
LWB stepsides were not "rare" when new and are only "rare" now because not a lot of people rebuild/ restore. Like a lot of people have said on here, "Rare does not always equal desirable." LWB stepsides are an "acquired taste". If you like it, go for it. Just be prepared when you sell it as a LWB fleet or SWB step usually brings more $$$ It might be worth $5k TOPS if it was COMPLETELY rust free underneath and in common areas and had no issues with undoing someone else's rigging. |
