My 1968 Project!
I'm new to the forum and this is my newest project. Being a Ford man I'm not knowledgable about Chevy's yet. However, this truck was bought new by my grandfather in 1968. It has always been in the family. 3 owners before me, my grandfather, my uncle, and my cousin. I plan to do a frame off restoration of which I never done before. I plan to remove the bed then the front clip and the cab. Any good books with pictures on how to do this? Any pointers and or tips would be heplful so thank you in advance!

WELCOME!! to the best resource for these trucks anywhere!!!!You probably want a factory assembly manual and maybe a Factory chassis overhaul manual.They will help with quite a bit of details.Both will require some mechanical knowledge on your part.The assembly manual can be found repo from one of the BB vendors(look on the home page for a listing).I found chassi manual at a swap meet,there are 2 different ones Chassis overhaul and Chassis service.Either is good but they do overlap a lot.Other than that the knowledge here is second to none(even the listed books).

Thanks Guys for the input. It will be helpful in my journey thru the process of building my truck. I know it will be a slow process. I have found the rusted bolts are a major problem already. But that's not anything I haven't been thru before when working on old Mustangs. I have made progess in that fact I have the front clip and the bed ready to be removed from the chassis. Needing the help of a few strong friends now! Hopefully, I can get them over this coming weekend. Again, thanks for the information. Now out to work on the truck some more. What a way to spend my vacation!!!

I'm ready to pull the front clip or so I thought. I'm thinking I haven't removed a bolt somewhere on the back of the fender. Any body have pictures of the placement of all the fender bolts at the cab area. I've removed the 2 at the top and 1 at the bottom but it still seems as if there are more bolts. The bumper is off and the core support bolts are removed. The wiring harness is removed as well as the support brace around the steering rod.

If you look up inside the wheelwell towards the back there is a large bolt there. I beleive it has a 5/8 socket head on it.

Shawn, it was great talking with you and thanks again for the help! Today was a busy day. I removed the bed and the front clip. The easy part (tear down) in going well. With some luck I will have the cab off by Friday. Wish I could figure how to post new photos of truck for you guys!

Thanks gearys 5600! I finally got a chance to work on the truck and cab is now removed. I'll post pictures as soon as I get a chance to take some more. Got a busy weekend planned since the wife bought us tickets for the Nascar race here in Atlanta.

Maybe time for me to start a build thread. Just hope I can keep up with the pace of others. I know the process is going to take a few years from what I'm seeing. But the finished products are awesome!!!
