53 windshield removal
What is the easiest way to get the windshield out of my '53 AD without breaking it? Thanks.

+1 to what Ogre said.
I've still got the scar from a nasty gash from doing it the "right" way (http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com...4ctsm0102.html) which says to push with the palm of your hand. |

Re: 53 windshield removal
I'd have to agree with them unless the rubber is only a couple of years old.
Take the screws out of the trim around the glass and the bar in the middle and then take the molding and the inside piece with the mirror and the outside piece off and then take a razor knife to the rubber. gently lift the glass out and then decide who you are going to buy new rubber from. Old hard windshield rubber usually just does not flex enough to let you get the glass out easily or in one piece a good portion of the time. |

Re: 53 windshield removal
The rubber is only a couple years old, if that, the PO installed it. I need to get the windshield out to check underneath, I've found a few "surprises" and don't want any more. It would be a shame to cut a good one up, though I know they're kinda cheap.

Re: 53 windshield removal
I'd cut the gasket because a new gasket is cheaper than new glass.
