If anyone cares. 67 68 CST horn button repair - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I started a thread last night asking if anyone repaired or replaced the plastic ring on these buttons due to broken teeth.Not too much help, so today at work I had a thought. I'm sure this has been done before. I'm pretty stoked how it turned out. Back yard basics at its best. You will have to sacrifice a 69 and later button. (darn)

Step 1. Cut off ring. Roughly 5/16 or so from bottom of teeth.

Step 2. Cut same amount off of 69 and later button. I taped a line then spray painted then removed tape for my line. The cuts were made with a hacksaw.

Step 3. Get out some 5 min and mend the two together.

Step 4. Slap it on. Just like downtown!!!

Thank you for the kind words everybody. I don't contribute much but I felt this needed to be put out there. I hope that it can help out some folks in the near future. Total time on this project was about 20 min or so. I think a small bandsaw would be the way to go but the hacksaw works great!!!

Anybody else come up with a different solution on replacing the tabs? I was all curious how well the epoxy holds up after time. I picked up a beautiful deluxe GMC cap and all the tabs are missing

This is a neat repair, I have a super nice CST button that I can save with this tip.

I think that in order to refine this repair, though, we should be on the lookout for a worthless Dodge or Ford part that can be used instead of a 69+ as a donor.

I always end up with crappy 69-72 horn buttons all bleached out or scarred. Plus, they sell reproduction 69-72 buttons you can sacrifice. The beauty in this repair is they both fasten the same to the hub, so only need to steal from one to fix the other

Are you using the same epoxy? I'm just curious how it holds up long-term
