1968 K20 Differential Widths

Like the title says. Have a 68 K20 that has been semi butchered. Diffs don't look right to me and can't find any info for widths on a stock truck. Thanks

Re: 1968 K20 Differential Widths

I think you mean axles widths. Can you post a picture of what you are questioning? I can't imagine any benefit to disassembling an axle housing to alter the dimension of the differential housing. Do you think someone widened or narrowed the rears? Or,do you wonder if they were swapped? Please be more specific and I'll try to help. Sorry,I don't have specs on axle widths at hand.

Re: 1968 K20 Differential Widths

A lot of older vehicles came with the front wider than the rear for added stability.

Re: 1968 K20 Differential Widths

I know 3/4 tons did have and still do have a wider front track than rear track. The whole rear on my truck has been swapped out, different springs, no original hangers, new ones were jerry rigged. Right now rear is almost 4 inches narrower than the front and from what I can find should only be about 2 inches or so. If someone has a stock K20 and measures from backing plate to backing plate on the front & rear, that would be all I need. Thanks

Re: 1968 K20 Differential Widths

If it's any help....The stock '69 K20 rolling chassis I've got here, measures 53" end to end rear axle housing width where the backing plates mount to.

Track width front and rear are pretty darn close, hard to measure the front, closed knuckle, axle with the king pins shot, though.

BTW, Welcome!
