Getting the AC going on ls swap

With this hot weather, I want to get the AC functioning on my 70. I have the compressor that came with 5.3l. I would like to retain the stock functionality. I have the Evaporator core the came with the truck. So my question is what stock components can I use? If any one has pictures of what they did to get their AC working, I would love to see them so I can get ideas.

The Denso or Delco compressors that come on 5.3L's Do Not work well with Expansion Valves or POA valves. Your truck has both. The good news is you can convert to a Fixed Orifice system fairly easy....Let me find the thread.

Re: Getting the AC going on ls swap

I went with the aftermarket Sanden compressor and top mount brackets because I also heard that the stock ls compressors don't work well with the older systems. If the route Cline is talking about is cheaper, by all means try that but if not, I did find the top mount brackets with tensioner and belt for 250 here...

I think I paid 180 for my compressor and it is chrome. Just another option for you.

Re: Getting the AC going on ls swap

maybe it is not supposed to work but I am using the factory compressor with my factory stuff (new POA valve) I also upgraded my condensor and a new dryer It seems to work good. I would be curious on why they dont work good. It has been going for 6 years. Now maybe it could be better? Temp readings out of my vents while going down the highway is about 45 degrees maybe a little better.

Re: Getting the AC going on ls swap

Yea it didn't make any sense to me either why it wouldn't work. I had several people tell me it wouldn't work well and they all had different reasons. I do remember one saying it was due to the climate control in the original vehicle. I figure in a single cab truck, it doesn't take much to cool it. The reason I didn't want to use the original was mainly because I didn't want to cut my frame to fit it.
