Longbed length modifications
Has anyone seen or done this where the stock longbed wheel base is left alone but the rear of the bed panels is chopped? I know I did a terrible job photochopping it.

Re: Longbed length modifications
I've seen it bobbed way more than that... on here as a matter of fact, but it was way more dramatic that you chopped in that pic. I think the way you have it there is subtle and looks great

Yes, i think it actually looks decent. I am trying to give credit for the photo too but not sure what board member owns the truck.

Re: Longbed length modifications
Ive considered this myself. That photochop looks good. Looks like u only chopped 4-5 inches. Id like to see what 6-8 inches looks like if you get a chance.

Re: Longbed length modifications
Very Cool!!! It is subtle, but I think it makes the truck look even better!!!

Re: Longbed length modifications
Something to consider if you chop the bed about 8.14" it ends up with the same overhang as a shortbed. This means if you are planning on using lower side trim, they would be stock parts. There are several threads on chopping beds. It looks pretty straight forward in my research.

Re: Longbed length modifications
That's something I did not consider is trim, I fully plan on doing the complete shortbed conversion.

Re: Longbed length modifications
It reminds me of some of the 70s Ford long beds. Their wheels seem closer to the back than what Chevy has.

Re: Longbed length modifications
The wheels were closer to the back. Ford called it the "Super Camper Special". The difference is that the bed had the wheel wells moved farther back and not just the rear bobbed.

Re: Longbed length modifications
What would be the benefit of chopping off a Longhorn? Shortening the back and keeping the add on front doesn't make much sense. If you have a 133" wheelbase truck and want a shorter body then put on a regular 8' bed and move the wheel openings.

Re: Longbed length modifications
Yes they had both a conventional and an extended wheelbase "Camper Special"
version. The concept was the same as Chevrolet to move the weight forward of the rear axle to offset the ever growing overhang. Ford just didn't extend their bed but kept it 8'.

Re: Longbed length modifications
Thanks, But it is just a chopped picture. The truck is for sale though on eBay (still), just a little longer than the picture. As much as I don't like cut up trucks in general I like this look. For someone who has a longbed and can't deal with it especially if they tow or have a C20 (non-longhorn) this is a great alternative to doing a full cut down. Lot less labor and if they make it through this it will give them a feel for the front if they choose to go further. Been taking pictures and chopping them up for a different reason, to help visualize a longbox lengthened to 10' on a 157" 1 ton chassis. It would be to carry a long dogbox or a 10' Alaskan camper.

Re: Longbed length modifications
8" bob is too much. Proportions are off. The one in the first set of pics looks GOOD. I was thinking about that a few weeks ago. You can hardly tell it was changed. Thats what you want.

Re: Longbed length modifications
I guess what I ment to say was, you can tell something has been changed, but it doesnt look silly or look like the truck was rear ended really hard and fixed incorrectly.
