Re: steering column help
Did you replace the steering gear box? Any original steering components still left?

Re: steering column help
I switched from a manual gear box to a power steering gear box and got the correct conversion rag joint from CPP and that is bolted tight. Otherwise all other parts were the original ones on the truck, otherwise the only thing new was the bolts and nuts, I upgraded the oem to new grade 8 usa made bolts of the same size.

Re: steering column help
I would check all other steering components then. Get someone to turn the steering wheel so you can watch the components and find the spot where it is getting its play.

Re: steering column help
Wrong kind of loose! there is no play when turning the wheel. there is slop in the whole column! meening that when you hold the wheel tight you can move the column around!

Re: steering column help
Ok, I see now. It's hard to tell sometimes, and I apparently read your first posting incorrectly.
As long as you have the new column placed in far enough, and the slot is mounted into the place under the dash where it goes. There is a nub the goes into there to hold it in place so the column itself doesn't rotate. Other than that, I think you will just have to make sure you put everything back the way you took it out and make sure it's tight.

Re: steering column help
Under the dash, there are two "brackets" that hold the column. In your last photo, it appears one of them is missing? It's supposed to go into the empty bolt hole in the last photo.

That empty hole is for the gauge cluster. The two brackets i know of are the one that attaches to the firewall on the inside in the middle pic, and the one that holds up against the rubber just below the gauge cluster, last photo...Do you have photos of the bracket i might be missing?

There is a u shaped strap under that and when tightened there will be no gap. See the little tang ? You should not see it when snugged up.

Re: steering column help
^^^ thats what it should be. that u shape bracket holds up the front up the column, while the other one bolted to the firewall holds up the bottom end.
