Power steering Cooler

Got a leaking power steering cooler
Can it be by passed?

If you have hydro-boost....You need a cooler.
If you have vacuum assist...Bypass it.

How do I tell which one I have?
I have a 98 C3500 with the 5.7 engine.

look behind your master cylinder on the firwall, does it have a big round thing behind it? If so it's vac. if not it's small and has hoses going from it to the power steering pump, that's hydroboost.

I have googled Hydra boost on the site and on google but could not find and overview of how it works or how it connects to the power steering system.

would appreciate if someone could give me a brief explaination.

Hydro-boost Brake Booster

Uses power steering fluid pressure to decrease effort required by driver when applying brake system input force.When brake system input force is applied, pressurized power steering fluid is admitted to the rear of an apply piston, providing a decrease in brake pedal effort required. When input force is removed, pressurized power steering fluid is blocked off from the piston.

Pics....1st = Hydro boost....2nd = Vacuum booster.
