Nitrogen? Why not?

Hey guys! In the middle of an air ride install on a '66 SWB and I have a quick question. Why aren't more of y'all using nitrogen as a pressure source? My plan isn't to pop up and down or anything like that, i plan to keep 180 PSI max in the tank, but i don't want to have to hear my compressor run every time I raise the truck (which will be used as a backup plan if the tank gets drained). I also don't want to have to worry about water traps, etc..
I have a place to refill the tanks (mid sized tanks, 40 cu. ft. I believe) just down the road from me and its not that much at all to fill them. I have tried searching the site for answers but didn't have any luck. So... whats keeping y'all from nitrogen??

Thanks!!

Re: Nitrogen? Why not?

They don't make on-board electric nitrogen compressors....so thats a deterrent. Seriously though most people don't want to have a "finite" pressure source, especially in case of emergency. Its no fun having yet another gauge to watch...and what happens if you run low away from home?

Besides that, the only time people do use nitro is for HIGH pressure setups. I've seen it used in addition to a regular air setup; they use scuba tanks and can run the pressure up past 300 VERY easily. Great for hopping/big play time and huge speed, but expensive and pointless for a weekend or daily vehicle.

Re: Nitrogen? Why not?

I'm with br3w city most only use it to hop and it can get pricey having to pay for every tank fill adds up.If you mount a electric compressor on the rubber mounts it does help quiet it down some. Most who don't want to hear a compressor use a engine driven one it will have more air faster.

Re: Nitrogen? Why not?

Why pay to keep renewing your pressure supply when you can buy the equipment to make your own pressure whenever you need it.

Plus you have to mount that big ugly bottle in the bed....

Re: Nitrogen? Why not?

for me, its the simple fact that nitrogen tanks are ugly. I ran nitrogen in a honda civic that I had about 14 years ago for air suspension. I had to fill the bottle every 2 weeks, and it was an eye sore. the last truck I bagged I didnt want to hear the compressor run either, so i just used an engine driven compressor. much easier.
