Weird problem

Well its not really a problem , just weird. About every second time I start my 1991 suburban the wipes make one pass across the windshield, even thought the switch is in the off position.

Any ideas, cause this is weird!

Re: Weird problem

They used to do that when new. We called it "phantom wipe".

I do not recall what we did to fix it.

Re: Weird problem

Phantom wipe was on a TSB for 91's. Replace the circuit board on the wiper motor.

Re: Weird problem

My 78 suburban does that when I hit a big bump, pretty funny! It has the dash mounted switch and it is kind of sensitive so I think a large bump just causes it to engage the washer/wipe function. This kind of hoopty performance does not impress my wife.
