Re: 6x9's in the door - Yes Or No??

If your doors aren't cut I would advise not to cut them. I made some boxes for 6 x 9 to fit under my seat and was able to get some thinner grills so my kick panel speakers would clear the E-brake. I know it's not going to win any sound contest but it really does sound pretty good.

Find some speaker grilles from the package tray of many GM cars from the 70's. they look OEM because they are, just not in this application. Paint them to match the door, mount the speaker with the nuts from behind (no screws show) and you're done.

Not the best pic, but what I could find, since it's too dark right now to go out and take a pic. You get the idea.

That looks great!

Do you by chance have any more installation pictures of this setup?

Is the tank in the cab? There is a guy on the forums that sells custom speaker enclosures for the back corners of the cab (if that's an option)
Ya the motor sounds to great to ruin with radio waves.....no stereo for me.

They do make waterproof buckets to fit behind them, crutchfields sell them although unfortunately I can't seem to find them here in the UK as the previous owner cut mine for 6x9's and despite fitting new window seals they still leak.

I used these in my last truck and they work killer. In fact they create a box which gives the speaker more bass.

Tim I usually agree with most of your posts but not this one. I am not opposed to cutting the doors, but the lower panel is not a good spot to put speakers.

The speakers found in many of the current cars/trucks are not mounted that low, and are usually part of an integrated speaker system. Throwing a set of 6x9's in a hole near your feet is a horrible location.

An option:

Bucket is molded fiberglass sandwiched between two foam bowls.

Fenders must be off, will cut thru small section of cowl vent, that must be resealed. sealed with seam sealer. There will be carpet kick panel added later.

The only way that I could find to clear parking break.

Re: 6x9's in the door - Yes Or No??

I could see those being resold!! You make a combo kick panel with that built in. I'd by some.

No need to make them. Its a cheap DIY solution. If I had known about the buckets that Crutchfields has, would have been even easier,

BTW: I should have said the buckets are sealed to the kick panel with seam sealer.

Re: 6x9's in the door - Yes Or No??

Left my truck out in the rain one day..(Florida flash flood) and thought "I better go get her or she's gonna get mad at me. So I went out in the lightning to save my project...opened the door and heard something funny. Shook the door back and forth and it seemed heavy and made a sloshing sound. YEP half full of water. Drain holes were plugged with junk, debris, and cigarette butts (I don't smoke). Cleaned out the doors and the drains let it all dry and the speakers still work.
My truck is no show winner but it will pull a stump out and tow a train. She is also kinda loud so the more tunes the better. 4 12"'s in the back and 6x9's in the doors ,4x6's in the cowl vents and 3" behind up high in the corners...All holes are already there so it's cheaper than welding since I also have all the speakers already.
SO..no holes no speakers.
Got holes-fill them with tunes.
Just make sure your gauges work?

Re: 6x9's in the door - Yes Or No??

I put 6x9s behind seat and built this little box, So I wouldn't have to cut my doors or my dash.

Re: 6x9's in the door - Yes Or No??

If you relocate the gas tank, it opens up a world of space for really important stuff, like speakers and amps!!

6x9s would fit nicely in the rear corners.
