Rear Spring swap - HELP!
Ok so.. Im replacing the shocks/springs in my truck. I got the old rear shocks/springs out and at the top of the rear springs, the retaining cup was rusted out and some of the panel that the cup attaches to is also rusted. Can this part be replaced or re-welded in? What have yall done when faced with this problem?

Re: Rear Spring swap - HELP!
i have not seen one that bad...i would guess that someone makes replacement parts for what you will need. maybe some one from up north has seen this and can tell you for sure what has to be done..good luck on your build....

Re: Rear Spring swap - HELP!
Im guessing I can drill the rivets out of the old plates/mounting pad/whatever its called and just weld/bolt new plates in their place? anyone got any pics/links who has done this before?

Re: Rear Spring swap - HELP!
I've seen guys parting trucks on the forum sell those parts to guys that wanted to bolt them in, so I think you should be good taking the old ones out and just bolting up some new ones. Check out the threads in the parts board and I'm sure you'll find someone that can get you those pieces.
Mine aren't as bad as yours but they're getting there so I'll be doing the same thing before too long.

Re: Rear Spring swap - HELP!
Looks like you have some frame damage from the rust you are going to have to repair while you are at it. Definitely hit up the parts board. If you don't see it listed, ask someone who is parting out a truck.

Re: Rear Spring swap - HELP!
my 69 was in bad shape in the same area, I've gotten frame pieces to repair mine but wanted to tow a load with it. welding in the pieces and fishplateing them also. luckily I found a new frame and am in the process of swapping the frame.

Re: Rear Spring swap - HELP!
I have those pieces you asked about, look back in the 71 parting out thread. They have surface rust, but it is minor, no rust scaling or holes. Just grind the rest of the rivets out and bolt them on.

Re: Rear Spring swap - HELP!
Anyone know the best place to buy some plates that I can weld in to the frame? Something similar structure/thickness to the size of the frame if not bigger/beefier? I will need to repair some of the frame and trying to find some metal!

I do have the pieces and the crossmember on hand. Pm me with your information and I'll get a quote for shipping sorry I didn't see your response before tonight.

Re: Rear Spring swap - HELP!
I've got the crossmember and brackets but the frame where they connect to is rusted also. So I need some basic welding metal to repair it.
