SPID decoding help!
The SPID on my truck is almost gone for good. Some is almost readable most is pretty rough shape. Any help would be great. I am hoping to be able to recreate this exactly (with your help). I cant find much online to help me out.
Thanks in advance! |

Re: SPID decoding help!
There is a lot there still. Most of the information should be recoverable. But for the best and quickest results the original pictures would be best. PM for email and more specifics. chipflyer is the go to guy for a reproduction SPID. But I will be happy to extract what I can for you.

Re: SPID decoding help!
Wow... not much to work with. I took the liberty to adjust a few of the photos in Photoshop to see if we could get more detail. Here is what I came up with.
Photo 1: It looks like the paint code - 433/??? Photo 2: (As best I can make out), 4DLE?? ? W/BASE 4C63?? AM/FM PUSHBUTTON? RADIO 4B90AA SIDE TRIM MOULDING 4D29EE REV ????????? 4C42CA DELUXE -AIR HEATER 4A1VAA PANORAMIC CAB SC? 4Z31DE CUSTOM APPEARANCE Photo 3> (As best I can make out), 4V37EA CHROME - ??????? 4V33AA? CHROME - HOOD?????? 4???JA BLUE CUSTOM 4M35CH POWERGLIDE TRANS I'm not an expert on the various codes, but someone on here will chime in to correct my interpretation and add to the info. Good luck! The 9 in this position indicates a 1969 MY truck. However the code as presented is invalid. The second leter is incorrect generally it is a "S" for and I-6, so "six". An "E" is a V-8, so "eight". Sometimes an "M" indicating a truck V-6, so think "meadium". There are many VIN variations and I believe there is a decoder link on the site Homepage.

Re: SPID decoding help!
Assuming the 2nd "C" is mis-read from an "S" (or E perhaps) - I'm stumped on the "3".
9 is indeed the year (which it must be as it precedes the Z), then the "3" is in the "model type" slot which is normally just 4 (pickup), 8 (blazer), or 6 (burb). 1 is the GVW (1/2 ton). But what's that there "3"... Mystery to me. Chassis-cab? |

Re: SPID decoding help!
Well this was work!
But between working the original pictures and a couple of SPIDs it pretty much came together. Data book references with the help of a couple of shippers for Atlanta built C10s finally brought it together. Now it is pretty much up to chipflyer to punch one out. One question is this little blue and white truck something you are keeping or selling? old rusty trucks' SPID VIN CE147A1XXXXX PAINT 4537AD MODEL# CE10734 W/BASE 115 4U63HA PUSH BUTTON RADIO 4B98AA SIDE TRIM MOLD EQ 4D29BE R V JR MIRROR R & L 4C42CA DELUXE-AIR HEATER 4A10AA PANORAMIC CAB EQ 4Z61DE CUSTOM APPEAR INCL 4V37EA CHROME-BUMPER FRT&R 4PO3AA CHROMED HUBCAPS 4604JA BLUE CLOTH TRM 4M35CH POWERGLIDE TRANS 4Z62DG CUSTOM C&C EQUIP

Re: SPID decoding help!
Glad you liked it. A lot of work went into that. After about two hours I was ready to give up except for reservations I couldn't walk away from, plus a fair number of blanks. Things finally started really falling into place as I cross confirmed codes with shipper invoices. Understandably its a lot of work to just give someone flipping a truck.

Re: SPID decoding help!
Tim,
A few years ago you decoded this non existent SPID for me. I'm still very grateful! Lots of help as I'm finally starting on it. The paint code 4537AD. Blue w/ white top. I have 2 questions about the paint I was hoping you could help with. I need to buy this paint and want to make sure I get the right stuff. Can I take this code to a paint shop? Also, where is the correct break on the roof between the white and blue. I assume the rear cab trim is the back break but on the front is it down the A posts or just the roof? |

Re: SPID decoding help!
For 1969 537 paint, you'd need to order code 507 light blue for the body and code 521 white for the top.

Because.. no, in 67, the secondary color for two tones was off-white (same as "Ivory"), paint code 526. So, if your 67 paint code is 537, you'd have a 507 light blue primary color (body) and a 526 off-white secondary color (roof). It's helpful to have some cross-reference numbers handy when you talk to your paint guy: 507 light blue = Lucite 4537-L or Ditzler 12846 526 off-white = Lucite 4195-L or Ditzler 8290 |
