Re-Inventing my shop!!

So about 5 or so years ago I built my shop, a 26 x 26 x 10 garage. It was great, but I started working in it right away and never actually took the time to organize it or do anything with it except stash crap in it. So fast forward a few years and I was sick of it, Time to do something about it. I had a loll in my schedule for working on others stuff so It was time to do something for me. Here is a few pics. As you can tell, I had a mess in these pictures. Time to de-clutter.

Re: Re-Inventing my shop!!

So over the lasdt week I have taken everything off of my walls, moved it all in to the center of the garage, as I have no where else to put it, gotta make it work somehow. You can tell that I do a little bit of welding in my garage! Got everything away from the walls and time to do some winter cleaning

Re: Re-Inventing my shop!!

So last night I went out to the garage and pressure washed the walls and ceiling, could not get all of it done on the ceiling, will do that later. but WOW, what a difference that made. took me 2.5 hrs. not perfect but clean enough to mud the holes and paint now.

Re: Re-Inventing my shop!!

So here is my crappy drawings, they have been looked over a few times as you can tell, kinda dirty and wrinkled, but in theend it is gonna be awesome. I am repainting the shop white, inside the cabinets white, outside of the cabinets gloss black and the doors and baseboards gloss red!!! gonna be sweet. Got a friend bending me some 12 gauge steel bench tops, and I have some aluminum I am gonna make some shelves out of for my collectibles. Should be good.

Very cool! I can relate as I finally got around to painting my shop, including installing baseboards over the last two weekends...long overdue on my part.

Look closer in the pics, It is there, jsut a smaller one. I have a 1950's Fridgidaire mad by gm at the farm that I painted years ago black with flames. One day I just may have to bring it back in.

They do fill up quick, you jsut do not realize. I looked at lots of shop ideas, and well the best ones are the guys that do not WORK in their shops, they tinker. That will not happen here. I WORK. so............ But I sure got some nice ideas from others.

Re: Re-Inventing my shop!!

Went last nite and the shop was still damp, so had a nite with the wife, that was nice. So tonite afte the kids went to bed I wandered out to the shop and got the first coat of mudwork on the walls, I will still have to put another on on yet, but it will be goodd. I am not making the walls perfect by any means, so many dents and scrapes. In the end it will just look nicer. So hopefully tomorrow I will get the second coat on and then primed on sunday!!!

Re: Re-Inventing my shop!!

It was snowing outside now up here now so it is kinda nice to be in a warm garage. Got the cabinets back home and put into place. We still have to build bases for them yet. jsut a 2x4 base thou. nothing special. Oh and I picked up all of the paint for the cabinets and walls. Man that was alot. My brother also donated a few hinges to the cause that he had laying around. Thanks kiddo!!

If you are wondering the big square boxes are 6' x 4' x 2'. Freakin' huge. And the bentch is 8' x 2' x 3'. In total there is 14' of bench top.

Re: Re-Inventing my shop!!

being a cabinetmaker I would use the adjustable plastic leg levelers instead of wood toekicks so you can spray the floor with water and not tear up the cabinet structure.
