Window Regulator ?

What is the best reproduction window regulator? I just replaced the driver’s side in my son’s truck with a counterparts reproduction and I’m really disappointed. Don’t get me wrong this is much better than what he had – at least we can roll the window up now.

I’ve double checked everything and nothing is binding. The problem is when rolling the window down – it takes (in my opinion) too much effort. Rolling the window up is a breeze.

Although the replacement went well, I’m not looking forward to doing it again.

I bought the same regulator for my truck and had the same issue,
I cleaned& reinstalled the original and she works fine for me (no more binding) If all the pivot points&gears are ok there's no reason not to re-use em

When I bought the replacement regulator I also bought some spare rollers just incase I could rebuild the original. But 41 years of abuse took its toll with busted rollers (which I knew about) and chewed up gears (which I suspected) - so the old one is trash.

Any recommendations on a better replacement than the counterparts reproduction?

Probably get the same from any vendor.The repos are pretty much all made by one co and labled for the seller(Wholesale side)Make sure the rollers and pivots are all lubed.The other thing I usually find wiith the windows is binding on worn felts.I have also had them bind on new felts.So I always spray the felts with silicone lube.It seems to help and the windows usually work better.The felts can be worn and not really show on the felt side.Sometimes the backs are worn and let the window "rock" some because there is no backing to support.The roller tracks can also be worn or bent causing binding in the track/regulator.

I was afraid this might be the case.

I lubed all pivot points and tracks prior to reassembly and see no binding with in the roller guides.

Silicone lube? Can you recommend a brand? and won't this cause the lube to get on the window glass? I'm assuming you mean to lube the felt that is on the back side of the door all the way down the rear track guide inside the door? This may very well address our issue as rolling the window up is not a problem. Only when rolling the glass down the 1st half to 3/4 of a crank then it operates fine. It's the initial crank that requires too much effort in my opinion.

Any way to repair if the main shaft wobbles. That's where the crank attaches to?

Never used one so I cannot comment on it. Maybe someone who has can.

PanelDeland - I did some research on the silicone lubricant and now understand it dries so no worries on this stuff sliming up the window. I will get some this weekend and see if it helps with my son's truck. Thanks for the tip.

PanelDeland - You Sir are a genius!

I got some silicone lube and lubed the felts (front and back) of the window and voila' the window glides up and down effortlessly.

No problem.I've shown that trick to a few folks and they don't know me well enough to know I'm not a genius. Glad it was that simple.
