electric cooling fan
I am looking at a electric cooling fan for my 51. I have just replaced the radiator with a 3 row aluminum. Bolts in perfect , looks great.
However the mechanical fan is to close. Less than a 1/2 inch of clearence. I have looked at several nice 16 inch electric fans . None of them will clear as a puller ( need at least 3 1/2 inches of clearence on the inside between water pump and the radiator). Has any one successfully used an after market fan on the front side ( got plenty of room there ) . I also am concerned that a front mount, blow-through fan will obstruct the flow of air through the radiator going down the road. I had rather not relocate the radiator - it does look really good in there. Thanks LMD. |

Check out these guys.
http://www.coolingcomponentsinc.us.com/ I'm using one of their fans. They are 2 5/8 thick with a shroud and are a (2) speed fan. It runs quiet and is made in the USA. I'm not using a stock size fan in my 48 but they offer a direct factory bolt in for those using the stock radiator. Can you notch your core support to push the radiator forward some? Just an idea. Hi lmdangerous, I've seen a few people with fan clearance issues. I had the same issue. I wanted a puller fan because some day I might want an air conditioner, by using a puller fan now I don't have a problem fitting the condenser later.
Anyway, I went with a dual fan setup. The water pump pulley fit between the two electric motors, plus I get more cooling too. Just a thought...

Jim - have not thought of that . may be two 10 s in stead of a 16. Ill give it a look.
