Re: 70 1/2 ton 2wd- what was I thinking
I finished installing the cab corners and back of the cab today. I tried out my diesel powered sand blaster today. I did the hood and cowl. Works great. I shot some primer on to keep it from rusting. I did not have enough sand to do the cab so I will do that another day.

Re: 70 1/2 ton 2wd- what was I thinking
I rolled the cab on its firewall and put it on a table. I then finished welding the floor to the rockers. I picked up some 3m two part seam sealer. Its in a double wide tubeand mixes in the nozzle. I love this stuff but its 33.00 a tube. I still have the roof panel to install above the visors. I did get a good present the other day. One of my customers called a gave me a car hauler, It will come in handy.

Re: 70 1/2 ton 2wd- what was I thinking
its been a long time waiting. 468 is in and its time to finish the sanding on the cab. I ordered new bed sides and tail gate which will be here next week. If all works out I should have it under paint in 6 weeks.

Re: 70 1/2 ton 2wd- what was I thinking
well its been slow with the airplane build. I called the plane owner and gave him a new delivery date. Iv'e been going full blast on the chevy. I primed and bolted the bed together and set it on the frame. I will be trailering it to work and bending up the polished 3" system with some flowmasrers. I set the cab on and noticed the body line is lower on the cab. I am using urathane mounts and they must be shorter than the factory, should I just add some spacers to the cab to make it right the correct height?

I dropped off all the body parts to the paint shop. I should see them back by the end of next week.

Re: 70 1/2 ton 2wd- what was I thinking
All the body parts are off at the paint shop, I took a little time and painted the things I did not want to bother them with. Glove bos door, steering colum parts and bed cross braces. I just finished buffing out the glove box door. I cant wait to get this thing back from paint.

Re: 70 1/2 ton 2wd- what was I thinking
I have a '67 C20 rust bucket and I've been wondering how much to replace. Your pictures give me a lot of clues.
My plan was to replace the floor pan in pieces from LMC but I see you've braced the cab to take a full pan. Think I'll follow your lead. The frame is really rusty from the back of the cab to the rear. I'll assess how much I want to replace when I get it cleaned up. My immediate problem is freeing up the rear brake drums so it will roll. |

Re: 70 1/2 ton 2wd- what was I thinking
What brand are those bedsides? I'm using urethane cab bushings too - I'm now wondering if my new bedsides are going to fit similar to yours. Did you ever get it aligned?

Re: 70 1/2 ton 2wd- what was I thinking
tri-plus bed sides. I had to drill two holes on the left rear cross brace. The fit was not exact on the front where the head board slides under the top rail. I am still very happy with them. I am building a driver/hotrod not a show truck.

Re: 70 1/2 ton 2wd- what was I thinking
The Urethane bushings for the rear of the cab are the thicker ones in the set, you might have the thick ones in the front and the thin ones in the back, and on top of that there is an extra washer that goes in the back.

Re: 70 1/2 ton 2wd- what was I thinking
Mine came out exactly 1/2" off . I made 6 aluminum spacers and lined it up well enough people comment on it. Kinda a mini-bodylift. Worked out well. Your truck is beautiful, great work!

Re: 70 1/2 ton 2wd- what was I thinking
Its nice to have friends at fabrication shops. My friend just dropped off spacers in 1/8th,1/4 and 1/2 inch for all my cab mounts and rad support. I also just got a call from the body shop, Please come and get your hood, doors and fenders. Work can not get over fast enough.
