Re: Here we go again.....new project

Just read this whole thread. It is going to be one nice truck. Love the green. I have been wanting to get a 67-72 body style to complete my set of C10's...

The gravel guards will fit. (I think)
Just not correct for stepsides.

Are you going to cut them down?

I forgot. I was thinking of doing the same thing but 20/22 Coys like Stella, but another wheel has caught my eye. This is a really cool build though, I am enjoying it!

Re: Here we go again.....new project

Made another trip up to see Jeff today.
His '68 is really coming along.
The Boss 338's for the rear finally showed up.

Jeff's original plan was to install 15x8 and 15x6 6-lug steelies with dog dish hub caps.
Then the plan switched to 5-lug,and 20" Boss 338 wheels.
As many of you stepside owners know,... there is not much room to "tuck" a tire under these tiny rear stepside fenders.

So the front rotors were changed to 5-lug and the rear was going to require either aftermarket 5-lug axles or a different rearend.
With some careful measuring (without having the bed on) it was decided that the wider 71-72 5-lug rearend would work better.
Jeff swapped out his freshly painted 3.73 6-lug rearend for a cleaned, sealed and painted 3.08 posi 5-lug rearend.

The front tires are 245/40's and the rear are 255/45's,... all on 20x8.5 wheels with the 5.25" backspacing.
In my opinion the rear tires fit perfectly.
There's about 1"-1-1/4" of inside clearance and 1/2" at the fender.
Only way to get it better would be to order custom built billet wheels.
Jeff also got the stepside steps painted and bolted on.
The entire bed is bolted together with Totally Stainless fasteners.

Here's a few pics,...

Jeff does nice work.
I just take pictures. Ha.

You really have to see this truck to appreciate it.
The shiny paint is straight out of the gun.
No cut and buff here.
Beautiful in my opinion.

Re: Here we go again.....new project

You know, most people say the challenge of the build is the best part. So, what's say I drop mine off so you can continue to enjoy the challenge and I'll just suffer through the disappointment of driving a truck I didn't build? I mean it's all about your feeling fulfilled by the challenge, right? No? Oh... Ok... just trying to help.

Re: Here we go again.....new project

Thanks guys! Keith helps more than he lets on,be it his knowledge on these trucks (tons of research that he does) or coming over for the extra set of helping hands. Our taste and attention to detail are very similar on these trucks , so I usually run it by him if I'm in doubt (OK, I'll go with covered door panels instead of painted ones. Home plate is in sight!)I'm so lucky to have a great friend like Keith. This board is also great! I have met some really great people through it, as well as tons of useful information.
