Substitute for rocker boxes

Does anyone have pictures of rocker box substitutions. They really are a bad design. I just about have my truck replacement floor in and my image was to use some 1&3/4" tube along the inside of the rocker to stiffen the front to the back instead of the boxes.

Re: Substitute for rocker boxes

I don't have any pics, But some years ago at a car show their was a blazer with eliminated boxes and he ended up webing the entire floor with 1 1/2x 3/4?? rectangular stock. Was super solid with no door/windsheild/bedside sag. Owner said ride was better from the extra weight.

Some where in one of the 4 wheeler mags there was a blazer it showed fairly good pics of underneath and it was done like 68panelman described

Re: Substitute for rocker boxes

I think you could use 1" square tubing and build a truss type structure that used the same exterior dimensions as the rocker boxes. If built right, it would be light and more than stiff enough to stop any body flex through the door.

Here's a nice example I found awhile back. You could even bend up some sheet metal panels to close it all out.

Re: Substitute for rocker boxes

now that tubing is a great idea. im willing to bet alot of the 4x4 guys would go that route as it wont hold water and mud and be strong as heck. i had though of using 2x3 box tubing behind the rocker, act as the suport and as a slider. I think i will go this route instead on my 4wd jimmy.

Re: Substitute for rocker boxes

Great idea, but I'd rather see round tube with nice bends for a cleaner look.
