Re: Cruse control

Was it equipped with cruise originally, and it's not working?

Or are you starting with nothing/starting from scratch?

Re: Cruse control

There are aftermarket complete kits for around $200.

Re: Cruse control

Kits are the easiest way to get cruise control. most of what you need is in the box.

If you are looking for a project you can install one of the two GM systems in use between 1968 & 2000 after getting your hands very dirty in the donors.

The 68-82 GM CruiseMaster is a real simple system to piece together, install, and work on. GM used pretty much the same transducer system on light trucks, Vans, and Cars from 68-82 so there were tons of possible parts donors. However... The transducer, vacuum parts, and wiring sub-harness may not be in great shape after 33+ years. I scanned and posted a 3meg PDF of the CruiseMaster training and service manual that is full of handwritten notes. Look toward the bottom of message #1 of the post in my signature.

The 83-86 CK & 87-89 RV systems are fairly integrated with the truck (example you'll need the speedometer to get a VSS signal). They are also somewhat year specific so you'll need quality time with a single complete donor and you'll need to strip everything you might need from it. These were not noted for extreme reliability. The parts are also expensive and going obsolete.

You might look into the next generation (1988-2000 GM T400 CK) trucks cruise control box. It will take some piecing together as well. There's a writeup on this system in the members area of The dieselpage. I have the Electro-Motor Cruise manual but it's not scanned yet. I may scan a bunch more manuals around Christmas this year.
