Quick Ratio Steering

I am in the process of building an 82 Blazer. Ive rebuilt the frontend with poly bushings and moved the lower arm forward 3/4". It has been lowered 5/6 with 3" spindles , springs and a flip. I am kicking the idea around of a fast ratio steering box. I was thinking a 12.7-1 and called AGR to buy one. The tech I spoke to said a 14-1 constant ratio was the ticket. The stocker is a 13/16-1 variable ratio. Anyone have any opinions on the ratio? I should probably listen to the guy at AGR but was wondering what y'alls opinion was too.

He just purchased a new steering box from RedHead.
But I'm not sure what the ratio was.

I have used http://www.lee-powersteering.com/ before they will build any box you send them any ratio you want.

I'm looking into the same steering box. I think it will help especially if you add the caster 4-6. At least that's my thinking. I'm not completely finished with mine though.

The redhead is a variable unit. AGR has questionable quality based on many reviews. Only heard/read good things for the redhead and lee boxes. Not sure lee does truck boxes and they are more expensive than the other options. Happy with my redhead, especially for the price.

Red hea quite me $100 for mine with a core trade in. I asked them and said the box I have is as good as I get. The can however tailor your steering feel for you which is cool.

I haven't used lee for a truck box it was a mustang box but they rebuilt it perfect.

I just emailed Lee about this last week. Here is my email and their response:
Me:
Hello, I have a 68 Chevrolet C-10 that I am interested in getting re-geared to 12:1. Currently I have an AGR variable ratio box on the truck. I wanted to know if you can either redo the box that I have with new gearing or if you sell a box with that gearing? If you can't do either of those, do you know of another box that I could retrofit somehow to work?

Your steering gear in the C-10 is a 708 model which has a large piston bore. The 12.7:1 piston is a small diameter. It will not fit into your gear. The fastest you can go is 9:1 which we offer. The cost of that is $675.00. Please feel free to call us on our toll free line (888)698-6679.

How much did they charge if you don't mind me asking lucky for me I can drive up to their shop in 40 min so I save on shipping

It was right around $240 shipped. He quoted me just over $200 for the rebuild with a 24hr turn around. Core is $85, if I remember correctly, so bring your old box.

It's about twice the price of a questionable rebuild from the LAPS, but more than twice as good, IMO. That Lee box better be AMAZING for $700!

We used quickeners or our stockcars. They turn reeeeally fast with them when the engine is running. Lost the waterpump pulley one night and if our driver hadn't been a gorilla it would have been in the wall. The force to turn one with a quickener and no assist is nearly more than the steering shaft could take it'd wreak havoc on the stock rag joint.

Were you using a 2:1 quickener? I was playing with the idea of a 1.5:1 quickener. It should give me a variable ratio from 10.6 to 8.6. A little quicker than what I would prefer, but I could always pull it off if I didn't like it. I ditched the stock rag joint a long time ago.
