I got those blasted U.9,000 stickers off my doors - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Once I found out that these stickers were just a Utah law way back when to show that your vehicle is "Under 9,000 lbs.", And therefore not a big rig that requires a CDL and other restrictions, I wanted it gone. Wasn't sure how to do it, so I posted over in the detailing section, and they were a big help.

Step 1. Buy a heat gun. I found one at Harbor Freight for $13

Step 2. Heat a small section of the sticker at a time, then use a plastic puddy knife to crinkle it off. Don't heat it to the point where the sticker bubbles, or you're bubbling the paint underneath.

Step 3. Once all of the stickers are removed, and all you have left behind is some of the sticky goo, let it cool

Step 4. Get a bottle of Goof Off, and a cotton terry cloth and rub the remnants off.

Thanks guys. Another thing I'm happy about is that now I've got a heat gun for other projects. I think it'll come in handy

After all that.................. the numbers are gone. Looks better IMO. At least you learned why they were there. That heat gun will be handy for heat shrink tubing if you do any wiring mods, probably for other things too.

obviously MUCH better. what kind of material were they? Vinyl?

Hard to say. After 40 years of sun and salt, they probably changed from what they used to be. Man, they were on there good. There's no way they would have come off without doing it the way I did. They were almost like a plastic metallic foil that was so flat, they almost looked painted on.

Thanks. Yeah, I didn't just want to remove them without knowing why they were there.

These heat guns are definitely cool. I bet they might even help with a rusted bolt. Might be able to get it so hot, that it helps the nut break loose.

Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
