Question on value of a truck

I found an 84 Chevy long bed 2wd that’s in good condition. 60,000 miles (if that) and very little surface rust on the right rear fender. Passenger door seals are tight, and the interior on that side looks new. Down side is the truck was side swiped on the driver side, damaging the door, cab corner and bed in front of the fender. Frame is straight. The engine bay is clean with the typical dust and dirt accumulation of a 30 year old truck. 350 with auto. There’s a cargo shell that’s been on the truck since new, so the bed has no rust at all. The owner was using the truck last to store drywall for his garage over last winter.

So, what’s a truck like this worth? What would YOU pay for a rot-free, very clean, mid-80’s running truck?

My CFO is balking at buying this as I already have my 50 project truck and she says I don't *need* another vehicle (2 cars, 3 motorcycles and the aforementioned 50). I'm thinking it would be a good vehicle to turn.

I can get pictures this weekend.

Re: Question on value of a truck

Millions of these things made so it's not rare by any means. To top that off it's wrecked. Sounds like a typical used up truck.

In my opinion I wouldn't give more than a few hundred for something like that, and I would have to REALLY want it but I don't view these trucks as collectable at all.

Here's an example. Clean truck, but no options, pretty much a plain jane 4x4. Out here they are a dime a dozen. Could take this back East in the rust belt and make a couple thou maybe. Tough in this economy though.

When I lived in Ohio I came out here to Battle Ground, Washington to buy my current 79 1 ton 454 pickup, loaded with options. Drove it back to Ohio 2600 miles. Original paint, rust free. It's 3 times the truck of this one listed and I paid nearly the same price with 70k original miles.

Plenty of cheap ones out here, solid and straight. Just have to look and be willing to do a little traveling.

Re: Question on value of a truck

If I buy it, it will be to use and eventually rod. It drives nice and doesn't appear to dogleg. No weird shimmy or shakes. Body doesn't scarce me as it wasn't a big enough hit to keep the door from opening.

I'll get pictures this weekend.

Re: Question on value of a truck

Here's the photos of the truck in question. I forgot I had these from an earlier e-mail. Typical old truck. Could use some bondo and a re-paint.

As you can see, the sideswipe damage is not bad. Basically remove or replace the running boards and it wouldn't be as noticeable.
