Favorite front disc kits, anyone?

I'm running 6 lug wheels & the OE front beam axle. It's a '57.
Anyone have a favorite kit or any experiences to talk about?
Learning the hard way to ask questions *before* buying parts...
Kind of looks like everyone is selling the same kit, though, so maybe this is a silly question...

AT least you can't get into a bunch of geometry issues with this part.LOL
Are you going to keep the master cylinder under the cab? and are you planning on power brakes? those two answers will help determan what booster/mastercyinder and valving you will need!

I'm planning to run an Astrovan hydroboost & MC under the cab. I'll figure that part out myself, I guess, or buy a firewall pedal assembly.

I need calipers, rotors, brackets & pads, though. Hoses & tapered bearings also a plus.

I really just want everything to fit right the first time. Pad / rotor / caliper alignment as well as the brackets on the axle.

Yep, keeping 6 lug - pretty sure, anyway. If not, it's cause I've swapped axles and don't need the brake kit.

Subscribed....I'm keeping 6 lug on the Burb , Sids dropped axle , 69 2wheel drive 1/2 ton rear 10 bolt and want to keep 6 lug but would like front disc , dual master -no booster. Most kits I have seen for 6 lug will work with my 16 inch wheels but move them out too far or require a different wheel with a different offset. Would like to see what others have run with 6 lug

the hydroboost is a real good setup. You may have to have the pressure lines made up by a shop that does hydraulic work. the return lines can be fuel hose. If you get the pump off the astro van it will have two return lines one from the box the other from the booster. When i did my jeep I used the old pump I had and ran both return lines to a T fitting and the other to the pump with no problems.

There is two different types of fittings used by GM on lines the earlier had a flair and the late have an "O" ring{I don't know the date of change.}.if you have the lines made take the fittings from the old hoses and mix and match a combo that works.

if you go with the mastercylinder under the cab use resuidal check valves [10psi drum-2psi disk} as close to the master cyilnder as possable. and you will need a balance valve{ often called a proportioning valve} I also used a willwood adjustable proportioning valve on the rear. The front had so much power the rear would get light and skid.the adjustable valve stopped that

As for the other parts I havent done that swap.

stock 6 lugs will not work with disc calipers
plan on replacing all brake lines
i did a mustII so no help on the kit

i should have said stock 6 lug wheels will not work with disc calipers
they do not have the clearances for the caliper without spacers

I'm going to try and stay with the parts I have, but may yet go to Mustang HB & MC if I can't make the Astro stuff work.
How much spacer is required? 3/16 is the number that comes to mind as the standard spacer thickness for this. I don't know where I'm getting this, though.
Does POL make good stuff?

From my research, Yes with a thin spacer between the wheel and hub sold at most tire shops.

Performance Online told me that the OEM 6 lug rims won't work with their disc brake kit. Anyone have experience, there? It looks like a small spacer is being sold with most disc kits and used with success but I don't know... I'm inclined to believe the manufacturer when they are telling me a negative about their product.

i went 5 lug conversion kit , but wishing i bought the 6 lug im switching mine back , ebay best deals i find ,,on the 6 lug there pretty much all the same ,

Newfisher- Thanks for the info, any ideas what thickness spacer?

I guess I am wondering if there is any advantage in 16" vs 15" when going with OEM wheels and discs.

yossarian19-Unfortunately POL also says the power booster brake kit will not work with a manual transmission due to a cross member... not entirely true. While I see where you're coming from, sometimes parts places are too large to know the answers to such specific questions.
