Tailgate emblem
I'm looking for a tailgate emblem for my '89 Silverado. I found one listed in newgmparts.com but i'ts $269 ... a bit pricy!
Anyone know of any other sources ... checked LMC and Classic industries, but they just have decals. This emblem is quie large, made of polished aluminum, about 8 inches high and the full width of th tailgate. My old one is pretty marked up. thanks Northbound |

Re: Tailgate emblem
That's a dealer item. Did you get a part#? I could get one with my discount, but would have to add the cost of shipping. So,your best bet is grab one from GM while they're still available. It's N.O.S. at this point,so take that into consideration. Maybe you know someone who can get a discount?

Re: Tailgate emblem
The US government only requires manufacturers to have parts available for 10 years after the cessation of manufacture. So, like you've been advised, if you must have NOS and it is available...no time like the present.
However, I like the Chevrolet lettering that the '99-up tailgates have on the lower-end trucks. It looks like it is vinyl and probably on a sheet of "paper" that makes it easier to place it before removing the backing. It may not be your cup of tea, but it is an option....

Re: Tailgate emblem
Ya I looked at the vinyl lettering, but the polished aluminum plate looks real good. I guess I'll cough up for it, like you say it is available and probably won't be forever.
On another note, the pinstriping at the upper body (and box side) contour doesn't seem to be available anymore and it it not just plain pinstripping, on the front fenders it tapers down to half its width. It is 11/16 wide (1/4 stripe - 3/16 void - 1/4 inch stripe) tapering to half that in the last 18 or so inches of the front fender ... any ideas?? Re: Tailgate emblem
Pinstriping (vinyl tape-type) is available thru a number of vendors. 3M makes a bunch. I have bought pinstripe tape from my local NAPA store. It may be that you can't get the OEM from a dealer anymore, but it would be higher than my child support used to be....
