Blazer seat belts question
What are most of you guys doing for seat belts? I am thinking I may go with a roll bar, and put shoulder belts on the front seat roll bar area. I also like the idea of NOT having a roll bar and just doing a nice orig looking retractable seat belt. I need black, so I would assume that would make whatever I look for a little easier to find, right? Any ideas or pics of what you have would be appreciated.

I would run a roll bar no matter what you do with the seat belts. These rigs are top heavy and the fiberglass top, if you have it on at the time, isn't going to provide too much protection in the event of a roll over. You may even consider a cage that covers the back seat so the little ones are safe too. There is a guy on CK5.com that made some nice brackets to attach 3pt seat belts to his roll bar. It looked sharp, sturdy and functional. If I run across the photo again, I'll send it to you.
You can buy new truck belts. Until you posted the link to the belts for sale on e-bay, I thought they were the same as the front Blazer belts. I think the only difference is the passenger side retracter. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

You are correct bouncytruck the plastic cover on the passenger side is smaller so it won't get in the way when entering and exiting

I went with a 3 point system, I made up the clamps that wrap around the roll bar and I bolt the seatbelt to them...

Yeah those are the backets! Those are slick!
What are your belts out of? I have a set of belts out of an explorer but the retractors are designed to be mounted to the side of something, not the floor so they are still sitting in my garage.

Bouncytruck- I think you are right about the roll bar thing. I am definately going with the roll bar now that I really put some thought into it. I like the 3 point shoulder belts, but does it make it hard for the people to get into the back seat thru the pass side? I am going to be putting my 2 boys in the rear seat in their car seats quite often, and am hoping they can get into the back themselves if I open the pass seat for them.

Danl- Have you installed those belts? Did they work good without any modifications? Do you have pics of how they work and look installed? Any help would be appreciated, I emailed the seller of those to see if he has any black belts. Thanks for the info.

Belts
Hey Diane, they bolted in with no mods.
I used a 3" piece of 2x2x.125 < on driver's side and a 2" piece of 1x3x.125< on passenger’s side. A machine shop made the 1x3. The angles bolted in using original stock bolts. The belts are temporarily attached to top, until I get roll bar, using 7/16" FT bolts in stock holes. The shoulder straps are a little long for this application and tend to slide off my shoulder. I think they will work great on the roll bar. Sorry, no photos. ...Dan |
