what differences between 67-72 cabs?

I'm looking at options to replace my rusty cab. I see a few cabs for sale locally on craigslist. Is there a difference in the cabs over the years? My truck is a 67 GMC. Any difference between GMC and Chevy?

You can bolt any of them on and they will work. There are differences like 67 small window or big window. 72-72 cable throttle 67-72 linkage throttle. High humps and low humps. They will all bolt on, whatever you choose just may require some modifications to be made for linkage and wire harnesses. WES

Re: what differences between 67-72 cabs?

I am running a 68 cab on my 71 due to a fire. It went on all right and bolted down correctly. The only thing I haven't done yet is to hook up the e brake. The 69-72 has a foot brake and the 67-68 has a hand pulled brake. It doesn't look like it will be hard, I just haven't done it yet.

Witch ebrake are you going to use? Hand pull or foot? WES

I haven't decided yet. I don't have all of the hand pull, so probably the foot brake

Re: what differences between 67-72 cabs?

There is a slight difference in the left firewall----to facilitate the length of the foot e-brake. This is a deeper recess where the e brake mounts.

Causes absolutely no difference in the swapping of cabs.

Very good question! I also wonder why they went to a stick on mirror starting in 72? Was there something wrong about having a mirror actually stay in place?

While we're on mirrors, isn't it funny how they changed to a black back in 72. Supposedly due to glare or something? WOW, that sure was a big problem wasn't it. Stupid regulations...

why stick on? screws cost more than glue. oh, pardon me, ADHESIVE. LOL. if it wasn't a styling change or a gov't saftey mandate, very little ever got (gets) changed without a savings in cost. and very little of the savings ever makes it to the buyer.

I would have to believe it was a safety mandate. In 1978 I had a brother who died in an accident where there was very little damage to the vehicle, but the
mirror post whent through his forehead when he was thrown forward. A stick on mirror would have just broken away instead.

Re: what differences between 67-72 cabs?

I went with a 68 cab and a kinda of 71 feel to the trim. I know that the fuse panel mounted different. There were different fuel line applications depending on your vapor line and gas sending unit. The fuel pedal will definetly be different depending on your accelerator cable or rod . But the biigest dissapointment I have is the courtesey lights, the older cab does not have the outdent in the door pillar to hold the pin switch, weird but I know this for a fact. I decided not to use the e-brake but I know the 67-68 was a hand brake under the steering wheel and a foot brake on the newer ones. Hope this helps, Kevin.

Re: what differences between 67-72 cabs?

Thanks guys, I guess I forgot about all the little differences between cabs. I've got a 67 with small rear window and hand brake under the steering wheel. I'm very partial to the small rear window look, so guess I gotta keep an eye out for that model. I found a CL ad for a guy who has repaired all the rust spots on a 67-72 cab and is selling it about an hour away from me for $600 - I was all set to take a look when I saw the large rear window - bummer. I'll keep an eye out of the "perfect" replacement cab, and if it doesn't show up, I'll repair the floors on mine and install a newer sunroof that doesn't leak and call it good.

54belair, Are you saying that the foot emergency brake can be easily installed into 68 cab with the hand brake?

If you can repair the floors on yours, you could easily "swap" the small back window frame into any "new" cab you get. Just sayin'
