Anybody running the Early Classic 4/6 drop kit

I am looking at putting the Early Classic 4/6 drop kit wondering if anybody has put it on if there is any problems dragging on anything. Or any other issues I need to know about.

Re: Anybody running the Early Classic 4/6 drop kit

I've run the ECE 4/6 kit on my '63 with very good results for over 10 years now. I am very happy with the ride quality and handling. I dont have the frame c-notched...just trimmed the bump stops, but rarely haul anything heavier than an ice chest. Nothing drags unless I don't pay attention to steep steps up into a parking lot.

Re: Anybody running the Early Classic 4/6 drop kit

I just had my frame mocked up with there 4/6 kit and 1 3/8 drop blocks in the rear and everything fit well. I used a bolt in notch though because the last square body I had I flipped the rear axle and I hated the bouncing off the frame so i really didnt want that on this one. seems like a great kit though I cant wait to get it completely in stalled and the cab back on for a good eyeballing

Re: Anybody running the Early Classic 4/6 drop kit

I have a 4.5/6 drop on my 68 stepside with no real issues. I also do not have a notch, just trimmed the bump stops. If you are going to haul anything then a bolt in c-notch will give the clearance you need. Go For it!

Re: Anybody running the Early Classic 4/6 drop kit

The absolute best drop kit in the industry!!!

I'm running a 4.5/5 drop with ECE parts and a custom made 3/4" rear block. I'll probably get a 6" rear spring later, though.

Re: Anybody running the Early Classic 4/6 drop kit

I have the ECE 4/6 on my '67 project and the drop isn't the only thing static, the whole project is! But,from what others say, they ride great, rear axle clearance is close w/o a notch, but is ok as long s you don't haul much of any weight. I'm now figuring on bags in place of coils in the rear because I don't want to hack the frame and want to haul and tow.

I have that kit on this truck. Same as everyone else said. Trim bump stops and you will be fine. Only time I have hit anything is because of my exhaust hanging down.

Re: Anybody running the Early Classic 4/6 drop kit

My 67 is running that kit. I also have a factory sway bar. On bad roads, I do bottom out on the front a-arms. Also with the sway bar in factory position, I was not able to use a floorjack to lift front of truck without driving onto a 2"x 6" boards first. Aslo, bumper is low enough now to hit curb or parking lot curb stops. So, for me as a daily driver, I have to be aware of bumps and drive around them.

As for the sway bar, you can buy lowered mounts to tuck the sway bar up a little bit, but I just flipped the factory sway bar mounts and mounted the bar inside of of the sway bar frame mounts and that gave me the clearance for the floor jack again.

Update: The tires I am running are 265/50/15 BFGoodrich Radial T/As on the later 15x8 truck rallys. (not too interested in 20s, I like the old school look)

Re: Anybody running the Early Classic 4/6 drop kit

John- have you considered 20s on your 67? It would help with bottoming out ( arms higher off the ground) It looks like you have maybe 235/60 on the front now? 20s might help and really set it off

Re: Anybody running the Early Classic 4/6 drop kit

Thanks guys don't know yet may go with 3/5 for now so I can still use the truck. Love the drop though have to save for air bags on the rear so I can drop it and still use it.

Re: Anybody running the Early Classic 4/6 drop kit

I'm 4/6 and don't rub on anything but the control arm on tall speed bumps. (This is avoided by going over them straight on and not at an angle.) Not to mention the truck rides great.

I thought you were running a 3.5/5 drop? Did you swap to go lower?

I was at 3.5/5. When I switched to 17's, it raised it some. I added a .75" spacer to the rear, but it still didn't sit right, but I dealt with it. When I put the lighter weight LS1 in, I switched to a 2" front spring.
