Hello folks,
I am new here so I will apologize in advance for my short comings, which will probably make themselves apparent in due course.
That being said I have a question on the compatability of the 1972 pickup doors, they seem to be hard to find in decent shape, so do the doors from the c50 and higher type trucks fit the pickup cab?
I have a recently aquired 1972 one ton tow truck and will be looking for some input as I go through it, I will post pics and such when I figure out how to do that and find the time.

Good morning Greg and a big welcome to the board!

Really good '72 doors are hard to come by and your best bet is
to cruise the forums parts board and shop for one local to you.
Another option is to consider becoming a registered member so
you can post a want to buy (WTB) in the same area.

As for a door from one of the medium duty trucks, I'm not sure
but I can go look once it's daylight (have one stored here).

Yes, the doors from the bigger trucks will fit, but you will have to weld a corner on the bottom front where it was cut off to fit the hump in the fender/floorboard. On another note, the complete floor will fit except for the front corners also. Quite a few of the big trucks have really nice floors in them. I cut a nice one out of a big truck over at the salvage yard and my friend Ron and I welded into his '69 C-20.

You can see in this pic that the big trucks are missing the front corner of the door like lockdoc mentioned to clear the fenders.

67 through 72 pickup doors will fit. The main difference in a 72 door is the window regulator shaft is longer to allow for the thicker door panel.

I didn't know that the doors were different from year to year when we did my '72 c/20. We used '70 doors and put the dents in them for the extra screw to make the inner and outer skins more rigid. When it came time for the door panels, I got a surprise. We had to drill new holes to mount '72 panels. With the '72 regulators, I think they are done. Are there any other differences? My truck has been done for four years. It is not all stock, but I'm still curious if my doors are authentic or did I miss something.

I had found that the doors from 1967 thru 1971 are all the same. The 1972 doors have the dimple you are speaking of under the vent window. This makes the door (skins?) more rigid or so I have read. The 1972 doors have longer window and door release handle posts to allow for a thicker panel (inside plastic one I think) other then that most folks say that the doors are interchangable. My concern was that the 1972 doors were unique and were a thicker door body. I did not want to find a good set of doors from a 1967-1971 truck and have a fit issue after I started the repair.
I am going to attempt to fix my doors but after i strip them down I may be in the market for replacements if they have too much rot on the upper hinge areas.
