Measurements of running boards
Does anyone have the measurements of the lengths of 1953 GMC shortbed and long bed running boards? Just looking to see what the difference is in the length between the two.
Thanks! 53GMC Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Measurements of running boards
The longbed running boards should be 9-1/4 inches longer than the short bed boards.
I've been hunting for a pair of good longbed running boards. I thought I had a good pair of short bed boards to trade and found out that I have two lefts and no rights. Unless I haven't dug far enough into my sheds that is.

Re: Measurements of running boards
I feel fortunate to have found a nice pair of Longs at the SRN's swap meet in Lou, KY a few years back. They are finally on the truck.

Re: Measurements of running boards
They didn't seem to be until I started looking for a set but I have to agree with you 100% they seem to have all disappeared around here. Or they are so beat up or rusted that you don't want them.

Re: Measurements of running boards
That's my same situation. The ones I have found are worse than the rusted beat up ones I have! Oh well. The search continues!

Re: Measurements of running boards
And the sellers get bent out of shape when you won't buy their junk at an inflated price. Although I don't want smoothie running boards I may just make my own and be done with it.

Re: Measurements of running boards
No commercially made patch pieces available that I know of. I'd hunt down some that might be bent or damaged in one spot but have the area that you need in good shape. I had a set a few years ago that were really nice except the spots where someone had taken a torch and cut holes to run stacks up through them and up the corners of the cab. That was in the early 70's when parts were cheap and easy to find and I didn't save them.
For years I thought I had a nice pair of shortbed running boards and a few months ago I discovered that I have two left running boards and no rights so I'd trade someone close by a left for a right in the same condition. I was actually setting them out at a swapmeet last may before figuring out that they were both left side boards.
